Russy ( Freiburger Patois ) was a municipality in the Broye district of the canton of Friborg in Switzerland until December 31, 2015 . On January 1, 2016, it merged with the municipalities of Domdidier , Dompierre (FR) and Léchelles to form the new municipality of Belmont-Broye .
geography
Russy lies at 550 m above sea level. M. , five and a half kilometers east-northeast of Payerne ( linear distance ). The small farming village extends in a panoramic location on a terrace on the western slope of the Grand Belmont , around 100 m above the Broye plain , in the northwestern Freiburg Central Plateau .
The area of the 3.7 km² former municipal area comprises a section of the Molasse hill country in the Freiburg Central Plateau. The community soil extends from the valley of the Ruisseau de la Baume to the southeast over the gently sloping slope and the terrace of Russy to the adjacent forest height with Petit Belmont ( 588 m above sea level ), La Côte ( 634 m above sea level ) and Grand Belmont , on the 658 m above sea level. M. is the highest point of Russy. In 1997, 3% of the former municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 35% for forests and woodlands and 62% for agriculture.
Russy owns a few individual farms. The neighboring communities of Russy were Dompierre , Domdidier , Léchelles and Montagny in the canton of Friborg and Corcelles-près-Payerne in the canton of Vaud .
population
With 221 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2014) Russy was one of the small communities in the canton of Friborg. 98.0% of the residents are French-speaking, 1.5% German-speaking and 0.5% speak Polish (as of 2000). The population of Russy in 1900 was 228 people. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated between 200 and 230 people. After 1960 a significant decrease in the population to 134 inhabitants (1980) was registered. Since then a slight population growth has been recorded again.
economy
Russy was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and animal husbandry have an important place in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has also developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Payerne and Freiburg regions.
traffic
The former municipality is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Dompierre to Léchelles . Russy does not have its own connection to the public transport network.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1228 under the names Rusie and Russi . Later the spellings Russie (1267), Russye (1272) and Russy (1578) appeared.
Russy has been part of the Montagny dominion since the Middle Ages . With this, the village came under the sovereignty of Freiburg in 1478 and was assigned to the Vogtei Montagny. In 1592 numerous houses fell victim to a fire. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Russy belonged to the Avenches district during the Helvetic (until 1803), then to the Montagny district and from 1831 to the newly created Dompierre district, before being incorporated into the Broye district in 1848. Russy owns a small chapel; it belongs to the parish of Dompierre.
