La Vounaise is a town and formerly an independent political municipality in the Broye district in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland . On January 1, 1981, La Vounaise was incorporated into Murist . The village has been part of the Estavayer municipality since 2017 .

geography

La Vounaise is 588  m above sea level. M. , six kilometers south-southwest of the district capital Estavayer-le-Lac (air line). The village extends in the valley of the Bainoz (left side stream of the Petite Glâne ) on the northern side of the stream, in the Molasse hill country between Lake Neuchâtel and the middle Broyetal , in the northwestern Freiburg Central Plateau . The former community area was around 1.5 km². The area extended from the Bainoz northwards over the height of Le Carronet ( 652  m above sea level ) to the forest valley adjacent to the north on the edge of the Bois des Bruyères .

With around 90 inhabitants (1980), La Vounaise was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Friborg before the merger. Some individual farms also belonged to La Vounaise.

economy

La Vounaise still lives from agriculture , especially from agriculture and dairy farming . Shell sandstone was formerly mined in a quarry north of the village.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a connecting road from Estavayer-le-Lac to Murist . La Vounaise is connected to the public transport network by the Transports publics Fribourgeois bus line , which serves the hinterland from Estavayer-le-Lac on a circular route.

history

The first written mention of the place took place around 1320 under the names Vounesy and Vounezi . Later the names Vonnaise (1668) and Vonayse and Vounise appeared . The place name is derived from the patois expression vaunaise (bad earth).

La Vounaise has belonged to the La Molière domain since the Middle Ages . After Bern had conquered Vaud in 1536, the village came under the rule of Friborg and was assigned to the Bailiwick of Font . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), La Vounaise belonged to the Estavayer district during the Helvetic and subsequent periods, before being incorporated into the Broye district in 1848. With effect from January 1, 1981, La Vounaise was incorporated into Murist .
