location

Game reserve in Heuberg

The village is located in the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park on the northern edge of the Mainhardt Forest on a foothill between the valleys of Brettach in the west-southwest and Ohrn in the east-northeast. It covers the southwest of the municipality of Pfedelbach.

history

limes

Foundation of the hexagonal tower in equals

Around 160 AD the Romans built the section of the Upper German-Raetian Limes between Miltenberg and Lorch . Between the neighboring fort towns of Öhringen in the north and Mainhardt in the south, after a steep climb from the Hohenlohe plain to the Swabian-Franconian forest mountains, it reaches the Gleichen mark. On the plateau, just a few meters from the upper edge of the step , Roman auxiliary troops erected the only watchtower on the Limes with a hexagonal floor plan (WP 9/51), the foundation walls of which have been preserved. Its one meter wide and therefore unusually strong foundations have a 0.5 m wide, outwardly protruding base as additional reinforcement. The hexagonal shape and foundation walls suggest that the tower height was well above normal. The design of the tower and its location suggest that it was a main point for the optical measurement of the dead straight route. On the approximately one kilometer long stretch between the slope edge and the Gleichener See , the course of the wall and ditch of the Limes can still be seen very clearly. Only on this short section does the Limes deviate from its otherwise dead straight line on its 80-kilometer route between Walldürn in the north and the Haghof near Alfdorf in the south, so the deeply incised pouring blade of the Volkersbach, a side stream of the Ohrn , did not have to be overcome. Digital terrain models , which were generated on the basis of data collected during Lidar measurement flights in 2009 , show two structures in the ground relief near Lake Gleichen, which could be small Roman forts based on the ground plan .

The lordship equals with castle

Schlossberg in Pfedelbach-Obergleichen with Burgstall Gleichen

In the south of Pfedelbach, the two hamlets of Ober- and Unterleichen occupy the ridge between Brettach and Ohrn. The starting point for their settlement was probably the Gleichen Castle , built in the 12th century .

In the course of the administrative reform of the Staufer, the rule Gleichen (formerly Glychen) came into being, to which the places Pfedelbach and Mainhardt also belonged. In 1027 King Konrad II gave the forest around Mainhardt to the Bishop of Würzburg. Mainhardt and Pfedelbach came as part of the Gleichen lordship at an unknown time as their own property to the Limpurg taverns . In 1274 Schenk Walther transferred the Villa Meinhart to King Rudolf von Habsburg, who gave this rule to a ministerial. The empire owned the rule Gleichen with castle and hamlet. King Rudolf I von Habsburg (1218–1291) gave Gleichen to his illegitimate son Albrecht von Schenkenberg , who founded the middle line of the Counts of Löwenstein (until 1464). At the beginning of the 14th century, the rule Gleichen with Mainhardt and Pfedelbach came into the possession of the Counts of Löwenstein. King Albrecht exchanged Mainhardt with the Counts of Löwenstein, who pledged it in 1380, together with Gleichen Castle, to von Weinsberg . In 1416 Hohenlohe released the pledge and claimed it in 1417 against claims by the Palatinate. In the period that followed, Pfedelbach was pledged several times to various noble families in order to eliminate the financial difficulties of the Count's Löwenstein family. Count Albrecht von Hohenlohe acquired the rule of Gleichen by purchase (1416). The same remained in the possession of the Princely House of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein until 1806. In 1828, upper and lower equals came from Untersteinbach to Pfedelbach.

The castle complex and its remains ( castle stables ) are located on the site of the former water reservoir in the village of Gleichen.

Heuberg and Lustschlösschen Charlottenberg

In 1372 a Hof Hawberg ob Pfedelbach was first mentioned. However, the Heuberg settlement was not created until 1730 at the instigation of Count Ferdinand von Hohenlohe-Bartenstein through clearing and settlement of non-local Catholics. The Lustschlösschen Charlottenberg , built by Count Ludwig Gottfried in 1712/13 and named after his wife Luise Charlotte, b. Named Countess von Hohenlohe-Langenburg, was sold to farmers in 1782. Temporarily bought back by the princes of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, it was badly damaged by artillery fire in 1945 and then rebuilt as a house with a barn in 1947 .

Buchhorn

Buchhorn lies on the edge of the Keuper plateau. The hamlet emerged from individual farmsteads. A document from 1473 reports the sale of goods in Buchhorn by Götz von Adelsheim to Hohenlohe. The Buchhorn water tower with a height of 38.5  m (built in 1965, content 200 m³, renovation 2007) has become the hamlet's landmark.

Equals and equals

Obergleichen, first mentioned in 1294, historical form of the name Gliche. Unterleichen, first mentioned in 1471

1294 Gliche, based on the Gleichen Castle in the 12th / 13th centuries. Century originated. The castle was the seat of an imperial ministerial family named after her, fell back to the empire after their extinction around 1300, pledged to the Counts of Löwenstein in 1328, pledged to Weinsberg in 1409, released in 1416 by the Hohenlohe, who were able to reject Palatine inheritance claims in 1471. Since then the same has belonged to the Hohenlohe Mainhardt office. Only the remains of the vault and the moat are left of the castle. In 1706 Hohenlohe owned a customs and forester's house here. Church branch of Untersteinbach.

Establishment of a locality

The area of today's village of Heuberg / Buchhorn / Gleichen belonged to the Pfedelbach community even before the community reform in the 1970s, without forming a separate village at that time. Only when the main statute of the municipality of Pfedelbach was changed in 1989 was a separate village founded. Heuberg / Buchhorn / Gleichen forms a residential district in the sense of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code .

Local council

After changing the main statute of the community Pfedelbach was first an existing of seven people in 1989 Ortschaftsrat for the municipality and a mayor elected. The local council was constituted on November 23, 1989. Up until this point in time, the localities of Heuberg and Buchhorn had been represented by two local councils, Gleichen by one local council. Since 1989 the entire town has only sent two councilors to the local parliament. The local council meets alternately in Heuberg and Gleichen. Michael Schenk was the first mayor of the village of Heuberg / Buchhorn / Gleichen from 1989 to 2009. He was followed by Hans-Jürgen Herzog. Walter Gräter has been the mayor since July 29, 2014.

Population development

The population is increasing in all three places. It grew from 808 residents on January 1, 1991 to 949 as of December 31, 2010. In order to meet the demand for building space, the local council has spoken out in favor of building areas Panorama I and II in Heuberg on the southeastern outskirts . The same is developing on the basis of the Steigäcker development plan . The population is pushing for the extension of the 1050 highway between Heuberg and the border with the Schwäbisch Hall district.

Buchhorner See

The Buchhorner See. In the background the Buchhorn landmark, the water tower

The Buchhorner See has no above-ground inflow, but feeds itself from groundwater from the forest area above to Gleichen. It has an area of 25,000 m², its water depth is up to 2.50 m and it lies at an altitude of 377  m above sea level. NN . The Pfedelbach rises from the lake , the water of which used to drive a mill in Pfedelbach , about 2 km away. The lake is inhabited by a large number of water birds, and when it is frosty it serves as an ice rink.

The lake was probably created in the 15th century by dumping a dam. Already in stock Book of 1573 the nine-acre lake as Michel is from Olnhausen mentioned properly. The dam broke on June 21, 1949, and the water flowed out of the rapidly emptying lake through a two-meter-wide and deep crack; The water poured meters high down the street and caused considerable damage on its way across meadows, through barns and through houses.

The first campsites were built around the Buchhorner See in 1957. Today there are three campsites on its edge and it has increasingly become a local recreation area .

The community redeveloped it in 2004. After the water had been drained and fished, 10,000 m³ of sludge were dredged and spread onto the surrounding fields, making the lake up to one meter deeper in places.

New Gleichener See

In the 18th century, Hohenlohe-Pfedelbach and Hohenlohe-Bartenstein bought farm ownership in Gleichen to create a zoo and a new lake. The resulting Gleichener See is located in the Mainhardt Forest and has been an FFH area of the European Union since 2004 . There are three small islands in it. The lake surface is 422  m above sea level. NN . The water is no more than 2 m deep, the length of the dam is approximately 210 m and the water surface takes up about 13,000 m².

A so-called Alter Gleichener See is located in Obergleichen and is now just a pond .

Townscape

The village development program operated over 20 years ago has improved the appearance of the village. Partly as part of the land consolidation in Buchhorn, new hiking and cycling trails were created.

societies

The clubs, such as the Waldeslust Heuberg bicycle and motor vehicle association, the Heuberg-Buchhorn citizen association and the Gleichen general citizen association, proved to be a stroke of luck for the localities. During the public construction projects, the renovation and expansion of the school building in Gleichen into a village community center, as well as the construction of the community center with kindergarten and fire station for Heuberg and Buchhorn, numerous works were carried out by the citizens themselves, under the leadership of the associations. Only in this way was it possible for the Pfedelbach community to finance these two major construction projects. Both facilities are maintained by the associations and are open to all citizens of the community. Both the village community center in Gleichen, which was renovated from 1989 to 1992, and the community center for Heuberg and Buchhorn built between 1991 and 1994 are now the centers of the localities. After more than 50 years of existence, the Waldeslust Heuberg cycling and driving association dissolved in 2005.

Infrastructure

In the post-war years, important supply facilities were created, including the water tower in Buchhorn , and the through-roads were expanded. In Heuberg, a new building area was built along Alte Strasse in the 1960s. At the beginning of the 1970s, the villages were still very much agricultural; Especially in Buchhorn and Gleichen the farms also determined the townscape. Some farms have been relocated. The village development concept from 1985 still emphasized the existing agricultural character. Due to the rapid structural change in agriculture in the last few decades, however, the appearance of the town changed fundamentally. The milk houses, which had always been the meeting place of the village youth, disappeared. Part-time farms were closed in the course of the generation change, and there was often no successor for full-time farms either. The farmers' children learned trades and found jobs outside the village. Even today there are commuters to the central Neckar area. In some cases, small commercial operations emerged in the barns. The milk house in Heuberg became a grocery store, which is now closed again. The former rest home of the workers' welfare organization became the AUM spa center for Ayurveda and naturopathic treatments in 1994 .

traffic

The state road L 1050 runs through the municipality. The next motorway connection is junction 40 (Öhringen) of federal motorway 6 , about 7 km away via the L 1050.

The Public transport is by the Heilbronner Hohenloher Haller transport ensured.

The nearest train station is in Öhringen on the Crailsheim – Heilbronn railway line, approx. 8 km away.

Long-distance cycle routes

The German Limes Cycle Route runs through the village . It follows the Upper German-Raetian Limes over 818 km from Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube .

kindergarten

The children from Heuberg, Buchhorn and the like have been able to go to a local kindergarten since 1992, which is attached to the community center Heuberg-Buchhorn. Until its opening, initially as a temporary measure in the Gleichen village community center, the children were taken to various kindergartens in Pfedelbach by minibus .

fire Department

In Heuberg and Buchhorn as well as in Gleichen there is a department of the volunteer fire brigade . In 1994 a major fire broke out in Gleichen when lightning struck a residential building. The courageous effort, including that of the fire brigades from Pfedelbach and Öhringen , prevented the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings. The firefighters put their skills to the test in the event of a fire, flood or technical assistance. The fire water pond in Gleichen was completely renovated in 1994 and 1995 by the men from the Gleichen department. The Gleichen department is also experiencing an upswing through the stationing of a fire truck (TLF).

Water supply

Buchhorn water tower

The negotiations about the construction of a water pipeline dragged on from 1899 to 1921. In 1921 Gleichen, Heuberg, Buchhorn, Griet and Hinterespig formed a community association to build a water pipe. Each family had to take part in the construction of the aqueduct. Several springs were taken in Obergleichen, some of which still supply water today. The Buchhorn water tower, built in 1965, made the water supply for Buchhorn and Heuberg more reliable. But it was not until the first section of their new building in 1994 that the water supply improved significantly. Again and again, especially in Buchhorn and at the heights of Gleichen, there were supply problems. The springs and the deep well in Gleichen can now be used in full and their entire fill can be mixed with external water in the new elevated tank Gleichen. If springs fail, water can be pumped to the Gleichen reservoir and the water tower in Buchhorn via a ring main .

The same is dewatered in the separation system . The more and more failure-prone small wastewater treatment plant in Gleichen was shut down in 1988. The same was instead connected to the Oberohrn sewage treatment plant via a canal to Harsberg . In 2007 the water tower in Buchhorn was thoroughly renovated .
