Bzowo (German Besow ) is a village in the north-east of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship and belongs to the rural community Kobylnica ( Kublitz ) in the Powiat Słupski ( Stolp district ).

Geographical location

Bzowo is located twelve kilometers east of Sławno ( Schlawe ) and 22 kilometers west of the district town of Słupsk on a side road that joins the state road 6 (formerly German Reichsstraße 2 , now also European route 28 ) Danzig - Stettin near Reblino ( Reblin ) via Słonowice ( Groß Schlönwitz ) and Kczewo ( Egsow ) with Tychowo ( (Wendish) Tychow ) at Voivodeship Road 209 (Sławno - Bytów ( Bütow )). The nearest train station is Wrześnica ( Freetz ) on railway line 202 Gdansk - Stargard .

The landscape near Bzowo is slightly hilly at an altitude of about 35-40 meters above sea level. Neighboring towns are Warszkówko ( Neu Warschow ) and Noskowo ( Notzkow ) in the north, Słonowice ( Groß Schlönwitz ) in the east, Wrząca ( Franzen ) and Ściegnica ( Ziegnitz ) in the south and Tychowo ( (Wendisch) Tychow ) in the west.

history

Bzowo was first mentioned in a document when Swantopolk II of Pomerania (1195–1266) handed over several villages to the Order of St. John , including Hiweze (= Egsow, Polish: Kczewo) and Besowo . At an unknown time, the Johanniter gave up these possessions again. In 1480 Mathias Bone is named as the owner of Besow, and in 1529 the von Boehn family is the owner. Besow remained in the possession of this family until 1857, when Franz Wilhelm Adolf von Boehn sold the estate to Friedrich von Blumenthal . He sells it in 1892 to August Siemers , landowner in Kunsow (Kończewo). His son Paul Siemers managed the 810 hectare estate from 1894 to 1902, after which Erich von Bonin was the owner. His son Albrecht von Bonin was only able to hold the 900 hectare estate until 1931, after which it was parceled out.

In Besow there lived 300 inhabitants in 1818, the number of which rose to 492 in 1871 and 532 in 1925, and in 1939 it was 541. At the beginning of March 1945, Red Army troops occupied the place. Most of the German residents had left their homeland by 1947. Besow became Polish and is now part of Gmina Kobylnica in the Powiat Słupski of the Pomeranian Voivodeship as Bzowo .

Local division until 1945

Before 1945, the municipality of Besow had three residential spaces or localities:

  1. Egsow (Polish: Kczewo), Gutsdorf, two kilometers east of Besow
  2. Planheide (Rozłęka), former Vorwerk of Gut Besow, 1 km northwest of the village, settled in 1931
  3. Segenberg (Żabno), former Vorwerk belonging to Besow, two kilometers northeast of the village, settled in 1931. The place now belongs to Gmina Sławno.

Office Besow

Until 1945 Besow formed with the communities Kummerzin (Komorczyn) and Ziegnitz (Ściegnica) the administrative district Besow in the district of Schlawe i. Pom. in the administrative district of Köslin in the Prussian province of Pomerania . The Besow registry office had its seat in Franzen (Wrząca), which also included the communities Groß Schlönwitz (Słonowice), Kummerzin (Komorczyn), Klein Runow (Runowo Sławieńskie) and Ziegnitz (Ściegnica). District court area was Schlawe . The last Besower mayor before 1945 was Fritz Andre .

The residents of Besow were Protestant before 1945 and belonged to the church village Groß Schlönwitz. It was in the church district of Schlawe in the church province of Pomerania of the Church of the Old Prussian Union . Since 1931 there was a separate church hall in Besow Castle, in which church events were held regularly. The last German clergyman was Pastor Otto Range .

Since 1945, the majority of the population of Bzowo has been Roman Catholic . The place still belongs to the - now Catholic - parish Słonowice in the deanery Sławno in the diocese of Köslin-Kolberg of the Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant church members living here are now integrated into the parish Słupsk ( Stolp ) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

A primary school in Besow was mentioned as early as 1784. After 1931 it was moved to the castle.
