Carlos Alberto Menditéguy (born August 10, 1915 in Buenos Aires , † April 28, 1973 there ) was an Argentine polo player and racing driver.
Career
Menditéguy belonged to the large reservoir of sporting all-rounders at the beginning of the 1950s, who moved to Europe in the wake of Juan Manuel Fangio and José Froilán González to look for their borders there. Carlos was already one of the six best polo riders in the world when he tried his hand at the wheel of a racing car. In the automobile world championship in 1953 he started for the first time on a Gordini in his hometown, but without countable success.
His style was characterized by fearlessness rather than a clean driving style. His mechanics were often challenged because he was too hard on the engine and chassis of his Maserati , which he preferred to drive.
He started regularly at his home grand prix in Argentina , but never played a full Formula 1 season and in 1954 he was completely absent.
He tried again the following year. In the heat race in his hometown, he finished seventh despite the failure, but back then there were only world championship points up to fifth. He got this at his start in Monza , where he finished fifth.
During the automobile world championship in 1957 he achieved his best result with a third place in his place of birth. This was also his best year. Although he started with higher demands in Monaco , France and Great Britain , he could not repeat the sense of achievement. In the final ranking he finished 14th.
He contested his last of only ten races in Formula 1 in 1960 at the age of 45, of course, in Buenos Aires - but this time on a Cooper - Climax in order to end a motorsport career of casual starts with a conciliatory fourth place . In comparison with other local heroes, his results were quite impressive.
Menditeguy found his final resting place in the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires.
