Carmen Sandiego is an American animated series that premiered on January 18, 2019 on the Netflix streaming service . It is based on the educational software of the same name - computer games from the developer Brøderbund .
The series represents the prehistory of the title character of the same name, she is after the two game shows Hunt around the world - snaps Carmen Sandiego and Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego? and the animated series Where is Carmen Sandiego? the fourth adaptation of the game series. It is co-produced by the American educational publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt .

Carmen Sandiego is a master thief and a member of the secret organization International League of Criminals (in the original Villain's International League of Evil , VILE for short ), where she grew up as an orphan . When Carmen realizes one day that her employer is not afraid of violence, she changes sides and steals the league's illegally acquired funds to give them back to the victims. She receives support from Player, a hacker , and siblings Ivy and Zack from Boston . The siblings helped Carmen rob a donut shop that was actually only used as a cover for League operations . During her job , she is persecuted by the Interpol agents Chase Devineaux from France and Julia Argent from Great Britain , as they know nothing of the existence of VILE and consider Carmen to be a criminal. The two are finally recruited by the Agency to Classify & Monitor Evildoers ( ACME for short ), which Carmen is also watching.
Carmen's main opponents include her former trainer at the academy. These include Professor Maelstrom, who teaches psychological manipulation ; Shadow-san, also a thief and master of swords ; Coach Brunt, who acted as surrogate mother for Carmen and taught her fighting techniques; Dr. Saira Bellum, a very talented inventor and technology teacher, and Countess Cleo, who brings culture and good manners to students.
Carmen's other enemies are their former colleagues, that the agents of VILE These are mainly Gray, Sheena, Antonio and Jean Paul, the pseudonym carry Crackle, Tigress, El Topo and Le Chevre; and Paper Star, which uses origami figures as weapons and appears to have psychopathic traits.

On April 14, 2017, an article on The Tracking Board website , which published inside information on Hollywood productions, alleged that Netflix was producing an animated series about Carmen Sandiego and that Gina Rodriguez would be the lead character. The series should be both entertaining and educational, similar to the previous adaptations. Rodriguez confirmed the authenticity of this information the following day through her Twitter account. A few days later, Netflix announced that it had ordered an animated Carmen Sandiego series with 20 episodes.
The show's showrunner is Duane Capizzi , who co-created the animated series Transformers: Prime and The Batman . HMH Productions and DHX Media act as production companies. HMH Productions belongs to the publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt , who acquired the rights to the franchise in 2002, DHX Media owns the rights to the first cartoon adaptation. In March 2018, Netflix announced that it would produce a real-life film about Carmen Sandiego, in which the character will also be played by Gina Rodriguez.

Soon after, the agents attacked the camp and Carmen managed to get all the workers to safety. She is brought back to VILE Island by her colleagues and decides to destroy the organization. | When Carmen finds treasure near a shipwreck in Ecuador , her former classmate El Topo engages her in an underwater battle, while another agent, Le Chèvre, attacks Ivy and Zack. When they arrive on the mainland, El Topo and Le Chevre let the three of them off because they are chasing a tuna that has swallowed a coin from the treasure chest. Carmen visits Dr. Pilar Marquez, who tells her that the coin in question dates from 1830 and is therefore of great value. At a fish market in Quito , Carmen lost consciousness due to altitude sickness , but was stopped by Dr. Marquez found and treated. In the meantime, Ivy and Zack acquire the right fish and thus the coin, but are attacked again by El Topo and Le Chèvre. During the fight, Carmen manages to take the coin unnoticed. | In Amsterdam , Carmen adopts the code name “Duchess” to stop Countess Cleo, who is responsible for replacing valuable paintings with deceptively real-looking forgeries and for holding an elite party in the city. So Carmen steals the blue letter reader that is on Cleo's list and arranges a meeting with her at the hotel. Meanwhile, Ivy and Zack are waiting for their friend there, when Zack opens the door, but Dash Haber, Cleo's assistant, is standing in front of her. That's why Zack poses as a duke and has to believably transform into an aristocrat within a day. Meanwhile, Devineaux and Argent are looking for the "Duchess" because they do not know that Carmen is behind this name. While Countess Zack engages Cleo in a conversation at the meeting, Carmen exchanges the paintings for blank canvases, which takes longer than she thought. In addition, Zack's cover threatens to be exposed because he refuses caviar on the grounds that he does not like fish. When Devineaux, who had followed Carmen, shows up unexpectedly and warns those present about her, this gives her the time she needs to take the paintings. Another guest at the opera is Le Chèvre, who unnoticed attaches a small device to her coat. Using data from Carmen's in-ear monitor, Player discovers that Jeanine Dennam, a rocket scientist who also watched the performance, was told by Dr. Bellum was hypnotized . When Carmen leaves the opera, Graham asks her out on a date, which she accepts. The next day, Carmen, Ivy and Zack are driving to Uluru with their guide Miro, an Aborigine , when they receive a call from Player, who tells them VILE's plan: A defective rocket is to be launched over the outback so that the rubble can pass the state Destroy the space station and the league receives orders from the government. The three make their way to the launch base to prevent the missile launch. | Professor Gunnar Maelstrom plans to have the Magna Carta stolen from a museum in Mumbai and hires Paper Star to do this. Shadow-san protests against this because he finds Paper Star unpredictable, but cannot enforce his concerns. In Mumbai, Carmen meets Paper Star, loses a fierce battle against her and cannot prevent the theft of the Magna Carta. Player hacks a security camera and finds out that Paper Star is on the same train as Devineaux and Argent. Carmen enters the train, Devineaux captivates with his handcuffed to a seat and stolen his ACME card. She talks briefly with Argent, who only realizes who she has in front of her when Carmen has already left and is looking for Devineaux. There is another fight between Carmen and Paper Star, which the former wins when they stand on the wagon roof and the Wind Paper Stars blows paper Shuriken away. Carmen then places the Magna Carta so that Argent can find it quickly. When she asks Player to hack Devineaux's ACME card, she discovers that Paper Star has taken it. | |||||

| In San Francisco , Carmen bought a car for Zack at auction, a prop from his favorite film series. She then learns that the VILE agent Time Bomb, a pantomime , stole a $ 10 million postage stamp and follows him to Chinatown . Shadow-san sends Tigress to town to escort Mime Bomb home, but Coach Brunt fears that something unforeseen might happen and sends more agents to reinforce it. When Mime Bob discovers Carmen, he hides the stamp in Agent Devineaux's coat when he is questioned by him. A little later, Tigress stole the brand, which is why it is pursued by both Carmen and Devineaux. On the Golden Gate Bridge , Devineaux falls into the water with his car, but remains unharmed, while Carmen takes both the stamp and Tigress' mobile phone to call VILE and brag about her success. | The episode starts a week after the end of the first season. Since Carmen is still preoccupied with her encounter with Shadow-san, she can not concentrate on a mission in Prague and is therefore clumsy. Nevertheless, she manages to find information on a new VILE source of finance: a Brazilian mine with uncut chrysoberyl diamonds. She finds out that VILE wants to smuggle the gemstones out of the country during the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and bring them to the Czech capital. Meanwhile, Coach Brunt, who escaped from the police, and the rest of the council members discuss what to do with Shadow-san, who has disappeared. Shortly thereafter, Devineaux wakes up from his unconsciousness and describes Coach Brunt and Shadow-san to Chief, who permanently removes him from the ACME service due to his recklessness . Therefore Devineaux returns to Interpol, where he is given a monotonous desk job. Argent receives a new partner named Zari, with whom she goes to Rio, because Carmen is there according to her information. In Brazil, Ivy and Zack receive information from a diamond dealer and meet Le Chevre, who quickly flees when they see them. Carmen, who is still not quite herself, is invited to dinner by a local family. In their house, they tell her about a building that is probably a VILE shelter . | Shadow-san explains at length to his VILE colleagues that he disappeared to track down Carmen, to win her trust and to bring her back. However, he uses a code word during his descriptions to let Carmen recognize that he is still on her side. When Le Chèvre notices a discrepancy in Shadow-san's statement, the latter has him arrested and leaves with Carmen. Tigress informs VILE of Shadow- san's whereabouts, so his colleagues now know that he has betrayed them, so they want to determine the extent of his infiltration . Meanwhile, Shadow-san now works with Carmen and her friends while Argent and Zari pursue them. At the carnival, Carmen finds out that VILE wants to use a DUKW to bring the gems from Rio to Prague. She and Shadow-san find an abandoned floatable moving van that looks like a dragon and intercept the DUKW. They manage to take the gemstones and then disguise their car as an oversized duck . With the help of her charity Black Sheep Inc., Carmen wants to help financially the poor housing estate in Rio where she had dinner by exchanging the diamonds for money. Shadow-san wonders what to do now that his cover has been blown, whereupon Carmen offers to help her with her missions. Argent and Zari find the two, but lose them again in the carnival crowd. However, they manage to get a picture of them, since Shadow-san is identified on it, Chief now finally believes that Carmen is cooperating with VILE . | |||||

| When Carmen wakes up after her mission, she finds herself in Matsumoto without Shadow-san . In the castle it turns out that Shadow-san's katana is part of a Daishō and that he has stolen his sword. When she meets with him, he says that he wants to return the sword that he once stole from his first break-in. Shortly thereafter, Carmen meets Paper Star, who distracts her, while Lady Dokuso, a VILE veteran, steals the other half, a Tanto , from the castle. Dokuso announces her success and offers herself as the successor to Shadow-san. Meanwhile, Carmen learns from the castle caretaker, Hideo, that Shadow-san is actually called Suhara and that he is his younger brother. Hideo was happy with his life, but Suhara did not want to continue living in poverty, so he decided to become a thief. He stole the katana, Hideo was able to bring the tanto to safety. Suhara has always regretted what he did, which is why he wants to return the katana to his brother. Carmen and her team make their way to a VILE hiding place, after Ivy switches off the guards, Suhara fights with Dokuso, while Carmen presses Paper Star and can take the tanto from her. | Shadow-san tries to stop the VILE agent Dash Haber from stealing smart clothes in Greece , but fails. He finds out that Countess Cleo and Dr. Bellum jointly carry out a mission planned by someone who wants to take his place on the VILE Council. Player's research leads the team to Milan . It turns out that Cookie Booker planned the mission to pay off VILE's debts caused by Carmen's successes and thus take Shadow-san's place on the council. Carmen's research shows that Dash Haber sews the fibers of smart clothes into fashion clothes in order to control the minds of models. He tries to get her to steal Medici clothing from the 14th century. Carmen first escapes the ACME agents who are chasing her, but a short time later brings Argent to help her with the procurement of the manipulated clothes and in the fight against the affected models. | In Moscow, Carmen and Shadow-san meet the VILE agent Neal the Eel in the Kremlin , but he is able to flee from them. Player discovers that Neal stole blueprints for the tripwire , an electro-pulse weapon, which was believed to have been made by Dr. Bellum will be constructed. Shadow-san suspects that Dr. Bellum's laboratory must be in New Zealand , as Neal is from there. Player advises the two of them to recruit an electrician for the mission so that he can hack into the laboratory's power grid and thus also into the device. | Carmen goes to the now destroyed Vile Island. She wants to hack the main database there and get information about her father. Shortly after Carmen leaves, Devineaux is stuck on the deserted island where he wanted to look for her. Meanwhile, Carmen discovers that her father's name was Dexter Wolfe, a member of the VILE Council and Shadow- san's predecessor.
