Clermont is a city in Lake County in the US state of Florida with 28,742 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Clermont borders directly on the city of Minneola in the north . The city is about 30 km south of Tavares and about 30 km west of Orlando .
history
The Orange Belt Railway, completed in 1888, once ran through Clermont from Sanford to Saint Petersburg . After several takeovers, the line was shut down when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was founded in 1967.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 28,742 inhabitants were distributed over 12,730 households. The population density was 1056.7 inh / km². 71.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 14.4% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 4.2% as Asian Americans . 5.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.8% to several ethnic groups. 17.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 32.6% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 34.9% of all households. 71.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.00.
25.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 27.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 47.3% of the population were male and 52.7% were female.
The median annual income was $ 56,291, with 8.1% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 91.23% of the population, 7.33% spoke Spanish and 1.44% had another mother tongue.

On January 7, 1993, the Clermont Woman's Club was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Clermont is crossed or touched by US Highway 27 ( SR 25 ) and Florida State Roads 50 and 91 ( Florida's Turnpike , toll). The nearest airport is Orlando International Airport (50 km away).

The crime rate in 2010 was 498 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There was one murder, twelve rapes, 27 robberies, 53 assaults, 194 break-ins, 697 thefts, 41 car thefts and four arson attacks.
