The Col de Granon , also known locally as Col du Granon , is a mountain pass in the French Alps . The top of the pass is at an altitude of 2,413 meters in the Hautes-Alpes department . According to other information, the pass only reaches a height of 2404 meters. The valleys of the Guisane and Clarée rivers are connected over the top of the pass .

Two routes lead to the top of the pass. Departementsstrasse 234T leads upwards from the south . This has its starting point in Saint-Chaffrey at an altitude of 1364 meters. Over a length of 11.5 kilometers, the road leads to the pass with an average gradient of nine percent. An unpaved military road leads from the east to the top of the pass. Here the starting point is Val-des-Prés and the length is 15.3 kilometers with a gradient of almost seven percent.

Tour de France

In 1986 one found at the pass summit finish of the Tour de France instead. The Spaniard Eduardo Chozas was the first to complete the route with a rating of the HC category in Saint-Chaffrey . This arrival was the highest stage finish in the Tour de France for a long time until it was replaced by the Col du Galibier in 2011 .
