Colfax County is a county in the state of New Mexico in the United States . The county has 13,750 residents. The county seat is Raton .

geography

The county is located in the northeast of the state on the border with Colorado . The largest river in the county is the Canadian River . It takes its name from French explorers who believed the river flowed into Canada . The county covers an area of ​​9,759 square kilometers; 29 square kilometers (0.30 percent) of this is water. The county is bordered clockwise by Taos Counties , Mora Counties , Harding Counties, and Union Counties in New Mexico, and Las Animas Counties and Costilla Counties in Colorado.

Historical objects

As of the 2000 census , the county had 14,189 people. There were 5,821 households and 3,975 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.50% White, 0.32% African American, 1.47% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 12.80% other races Groups; 3.59% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 47.49% of the population.
