Stadium Arcadium is a studio album by the funk and rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers . It was released on May 5, 2006 in Germany (May 8 in the UK , May 9 in the USA ).

At first, Stadium Arcadium , according to frontman Anthony Kiedis , was intended as an album trilogy, but was reduced to a double album because the gap between the releases (6 months each) would describe too long a total period. The band recorded 38 songs. 29 of them were published on the album, nine more as B-sides . The two CDs of the double album are named Jupiter and Mars.

With a few exceptions (e.g. Dani California ), John Frusciante claims to have freely improvised his solos on this album in the studio. He is also credited with the greatest creative share of this album by the other band members, which was recorded in the same villa where Blood Sugar Sex Magik was recorded.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine , bassist Flea said the album was "by far the best" they have ever made.

The single released Dani California (Dani is the same character as the main character of the song By the Way and is also mentioned in a verse of the song Californication ), Tell Me Baby , Snow ((Hey Oh)) , Desecration Smile and Hump de Bump .

Awards and press coverage

Grammy Award

Stadium Arcadium was nominated for seven Grammys in 2007: album of the year, best short music video (Dani California), best rock album, best rock song ( Dani California ), best rock performance of a duo or group with a singer (Dani California), best special edition with limited Edition, and Producer of the Year (Rick Rubin). The album won in all categories except for best short music video. This made Stadium Arcadium the most frequently nominated album in the Red Hot Chili Peppers band's 24-year history.

American press

Rolling Stone Magazine named Stadium Arcadium the band's best album (4/5 points). Q Magazine named it the best album of 2006 (5/5). At allmusic, the album did not do so well with 3.5 / 5. It has been criticized for being overproduced and in love with itself.

German-language press

In Rock Hard the album received 8 out of 10 points and was awarded "Dynamit". In the laut.de editorial evaluation, the album received full points (5 out of 5). The specialist magazine Guitar rates Stadium Arcadium as an “outstanding record” and describes Dani California , Snow ((Hey Oh)) and Make You Feel Better as “one of the greatest strokes of genius in Peppers history”. The album also attracted attention in magazines that primarily deal with other genres; the German-language webzine metal.de made the album a tip from the editors with a rating of 8 out of 10.
