history

Seibersdorf (center below) and the surrounding area around 1873 (recording sheet of the state survey )
Location German Brodersdorf (1873) to Leithaprodersdorf (1872: Hungarian Brodersdorf)

In ancient times the area was part of the province of Pannonia .

Named after the founder Siegfried (1043/45), official and power bearer of the margraviate - first Siegfrieds, Seifrieds , then Seibersdorf .

In the history of Seibersdorf it is certain that the fortress Seibersdorf, like other castle complexes (e.g. Ebenfurth, Pottendorf), was founded out of strategic considerations of securing the Leithag border against Magyar influence.

With a lively change of ownership, the conversion from a medieval water castle to today's baroque castle, built in the 17th century and architecturally designed under Leopold Karl Graf von Cavriani at the beginning of the 18th century. The castle depicted in Topographia Austriae inferioris (published 1672) by Georg Matthäus Vischer is essentially the same as it is today.

When the Turkish invasion threatened in 1683, certain places were declared places of refuge. So under the "Refuge-Stätt Under Wiennerwaldt" u. a. Scharfegg, Under Waldersdorff, Seibersdorff, Günss- and Koblstorff called.

After the Turks withdrew from Central Europe at the beginning of the 18th century, the strategic importance of the castles as a safeguard of the Leithag border decreased and the individual castle complexes could be converted into baroque palaces by their owners. In the case of Seibersdorf, as already mentioned, these were the Cavriani, a Catholic noble family from Mantua, who owned the castle until 1932.

This historical development of Seibersdorf determined by documents can be supplemented by plans. The Walter plan , which was made by Constantin Johann von Walter between 1754 and 1756 on behalf of Empress Maria Theresia as a border map between Hungary and Lower Austria , clearly shows the baroque palace complex and the associated park.

The municipalities of Seibersdorf and Deutsch Brodersdorf were merged on January 1, 1972.
