Dorothea Hofmann

Dorothea Hofmann (* 1961 in Bamberg ) is a German composer , pianist and university teacher .

Life

Dorothea Hofmann studied from 1978 school music , choir conducting (with Fritz Schieri ) and piano (with Erik Then-Bergh and Karl-Hermann Mrongovius, song accompaniment with Erik Werba and Norman Shetler ) in Munich and Salzburg as well as musicology and philosophy in Munich and Augsburg (doctorate in 1992 at Franz Krautwurst ). After teaching assignments in Bamberg , Augsburg and Munich , she has been teaching historical musicology and music sociology at the Munich University of Music and Theater since 2008, and has been a professor since 2014. In the Society for Music Research , she has been the spokesperson for the “Musicology at Music Colleges” section since 2011.

Dorothea Hofmann's compositional work ranges from piano and organ music to chamber music and songs for a wide variety of ensembles to oratorio works for solos, choir and orchestra. In 2006/07 Dorothea Hofmann was Composer in Residence in Schweinfurt , 2007 scholarship at the Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani in Venice , 2014/15 visiting professor at the University of São Paulo .

Honors

  • 1993 laureate at the international artist competition for contemporary music in Rotterdam
  • 2006 1st prize at the Herbert Baumann Composition Competition (for the sextet Tagtraum )
