Echo classic
The Echo Klassik (own spelling ECHO KLASSIK ) was a German music award for personalities and productions from the field of classical music . The Echo Klassik was the second oldest of three Echo Music Awards and was awarded annually by the German Phono Academy from 1994 to 2017. In addition to the Echo Klassik , there was also the Echo Pop and Echo Jazz . The awarding of the Echo Klassik was discontinued on April 25, 2018, after the awarding of the Echo Pop 2018 had led to the Echo “being perceived as a platform for anti-Semitism , contempt for women , homophobia or the trivialization of violence”. The Opus Klassik was launched as the successor .

The main goal of the Echo Klassik was not only to honor world stars for their musical achievements, but also to promote outstanding young talents with the award. The Echo Klassik was awarded by a jury who judged on artistic quality as well as on audience success. The award of the Echo Klassik primarily reflected the “appreciation through music sales”. The last jury to become known was not a music critic, a musicologist or an outstanding active musician (see German Phono Academy ). The jury consisted of the Classic Working Group of the Federal Music Industry Association , independent industry experts and the ZDF music editorial team.
Since 2001, a short time appeared a year after every Echo Klassik Awards, the best of classical music - compilation with winners and nominees of the annual ceremony.
From 2009 to 2014 an Echo Klassik magazine was published annually with backgrounds, stories, interviews and reports on everything to do with Echo Klassik.
Submission regulations
The submission was based on sound carrier publications by an artist in the classical genre . The classification in the PHONONET database decided whether the sound carrier could be assigned to the genre classic. All phonogram manufacturers whose phonograms were constantly sold on the German market and who owned the corresponding distribution rights to the artists' phonograms were eligible to submit. Regardless of their nationality, all classical music artists who were active in the musical life and on the recording market at the time of submission were qualified for the award. The submission period fell on March of each year. The evaluation period fell from the beginning of the previous calendar year to the submission period of the current year. The sound carriers had to contain recordings published for the first time in the evaluation period, the proportion of which in the total playing time of the publication had to be at least 50%. Products submitted in the previous year could not be submitted again.
A one-time fee of EUR 50.00 was charged for each product submitted. The jury selected the respective award winner from the submissions for the individual categories with a simple majority. Legal recourse was final against the decision of the jury. There was no legal claim to consideration in the submission process or to the prizes awarded.

Award winners
Before the Echo Klassik was established as a separate award ceremony in 1994, the best national and international artists in the field of classical music were honored at the Echo Pop Awards in 1992 and 1993.
