Ice hockey has been played in Königsbrunn since 1951. The first team of the EHC Königsbrunn currently plays in the fourth-class Bayernliga .

history

TSV Königsbrunn 1951 to 1991

On November 14, 1951, the founding meeting of the ice hockey department of TSV Königsbrunn took place. Fritz Lang was elected the first department head. The first game in the club's history on their own natural ice in January 1952 was lost 22: 8 against HC Augsburg . In the following 1952/53 season, the club took up the league game in the BEV . On March 6, 1953, the newly formed youth team debuted with a 3-2 win over AERV.

With the win of the Bavarian Championship in 1977 and promotion to the regional league for the 1977/78 season, TSV Königsbrunn played in higher class leagues for the first time. From 1977 to 1982 they took part in the Regionalliga Süd . After relegation in 1981/82 in the Bayern League , the team was runner-up in the 1984/85 season and qualified with this on the promotion round again for the Regionalliga Süd . In 1987 the club rose to the Oberliga Süd .

ESV Pinguine Königsbrunn 1991 to 2013

In the summer of 1991, the ice hockey department of the TSV Königsbrunn under the name made ESV Penguins Königsbrunn independently. She continued the game operation in 1991/92 in the league. With the introduction of the German Ice Hockey League in the summer of 1994, the team was divided into the new 2nd League South . The club played there until the 1997/98 season , when they were finally relegated to the Bayern League. In the 2001/02 season they were runner-up in the Bavarian League and took part in the promotion round to Regionalliga Süd , where they just missed promotion as second.

In the following years, the club continued to play in the Bavarian League until it was relegated to the regional league in 2009. After the senior team reached fourth place in the regional league in the 2009/10 season, an application was made to open insolvency proceedings on April 6, 2010 after resigning from the board. Both the resignation of the board of directors and the filing for insolvency were rejected by the competent local court. Despite the financial problems, the ESV team rose as a successor to the Bayern League. During the 2012/13 season, on December 13, 2012, the team was withdrawn from playing in the Bayern League, as the minimum size of the squad was no longer reached due to the departure of players during the transition period that had started. On February 5, 2013, the bankruptcy proceedings were opened against the association.

EHC Königsbrunn since 2010

After filing for insolvency in 2010, the EHC Königsbrunn was founded as the successor association. In addition, the EV Königsbrunn was founded for the youth and women's teams .

In the summer of 2005, the ESV concluded a cooperation agreement with the Augsburg EV , according to which, within the cooperation of the ESV Königsbrunn with the senior and junior teams, the Augsburg EV with the youth and school teams, and in the younger youth classes, both clubs with teams on Participate in game operations. At the beginning of the 2008/2009 season, however, the cooperation agreement with the Augsburger EV was terminated and a new student team was founded.

The junior team played for the first time in the 2008/2009 season in the Bundesliga South, where they managed to stay up. In May 2010, the team switched to Augsburger EV , instead the AEV junior district league team should switch to ESV . From the 2013/14 season onwards, the teams will play under the umbrella of EV Königsbrunn.

Women

When the long-time Bundesliga club DEC Tigers Königsbrunn dissolved in October 2006, the majority of the players switched to ESV Königsbrunn. The club then reported for the first time a women's team in the second-rate Bavarian regional league. From the 2013/14 season, the team will continue to play under the umbrella of EV Königsbrunn.

Inline hockey

The inline hockey team of ESV Pinguine Königsbrunn took part in the DIHL organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation . In 2004, 2006 and 2009 you reached the final, but lost each time. In the 2010 season, a Königsbrunn team took part in the DIHL, which was organizationally independent of the ESV, and was again only defeated in the final. From 2011 the team will take part in the DIHL as IC Königsbrunn .

Ice rink

In August 2008, the ice rink of the Königstherme, built in 1984, was renamed the Hydro-tech ice arena.

Before the opening of the ice rink, the then TSV Königsbrunn only played on the club's own natural ice rink behind the Gasthof Krone since the club was founded, before moving to the open artificial ice stadium in the Augsburg district of Haunstetten in 1976 .
