Elbe is a municipality in the east of the combined municipality of Baddeckestedt in the Wolfenbüttel district in Lower Saxony (Germany).

geography

The Elbe community is located southwest of Salzgitter in the Innerste Valley . Starting in the northeast, the Elbe borders in a clockwise direction: the independent city of Salzgitter and the communities of Haverlah , Heere and Baddeckestedt . The three districts of the municipality are Groß Elbe , Klein Elbe and Gustedt .

history

The district of Groß Elbe was first mentioned in 1132 in a document from Bishop Bernhard von Hildesheim for the Michaelskloster as Elvethe .

In the Quedlinburg Recess of 1523, the place came with the large pen to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . In 1643 it was returned to the Hildesheim Monastery and stayed there until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803.

On March 1, 1974, the communities of Groß Elbe, Gustedt and Klein Elbe were merged to form the new municipality of Elbe.

Culture and sights

• The Martinskirche in the district of Groß Elbe was given its current appearance in 1698.
• The church in Gustedt is documented as early as 1326 and was expanded by a partial new building in 1420 and extensively renovated in 1978.
• The nave of the Klein Elber Sankt-Nikolaus-Kirche was renewed in 1768, the tower is much older. There are small glass paintings in the two narrow windows of the choir. One of the panes depicts the crucifixion, underneath it says “Hans Gremmel”, the other depicts the Last Judgment and shows the writing “Her Henni Borchtorff Pastor 1583”.

Economy and Infrastructure

The economic and social structure of the villages in the municipality of Elbe is strongly characterized by rural areas, as well as being a residential community for the jobs in industry and business in Salzgitter.

The Elbe elementary school is located in Groß Elbe and is a reliable elementary school in which around two hundred pupils are taught in ten classes.

The federal road 6 leads through the municipality and offers a very good connection u. a. to the cities of Hildesheim , Salzgitter and Goslar .
