The European Darts Open is a ranking tournament in darts and was organized from July 29th to 31st, 2016 by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It was the sixth event of the European Darts Tour , which is part of the Pro Tour 2016 . The venue was the Maritim Hotel in Düsseldorf .

The reigning defending champion Robert Thornton was replaced by the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen , who won the final 6: 5 legs against Peter Wright .

format

The tournament was played in a knockout system . Game mode in all rounds was a best of 11 legs . Each leg was played in double-out mode.

Prize money

The tournament totaled £ 115,000 in prize money. The prize money was distributed among the participants as follows:
