The airfield Rotenburg (Wümme) ( ICAO code: EDXQ) is a commercial airport that about four kilometers northwest of the town of Rotenburg (Wümme) and in the Elbe-Weser triangle between Hamburg , Bremen and Hanover is located.

Geographical location

The airfield is located opposite the von Düring barracks on a former military airfield at a height of 30  meters above sea level . The airfield is located about four kilometers to the north-west of Rotenburg (Wümme) and is enclosed by the surrounding communities of Scheeßel , Sottrum and Gyhum .

history

On April 26, 2013, in Bötersen, about 2 km away, a single-engine turboprop plane crashed, which was approaching the Rotenburg (Wümme) airfield in poor weather conditions. All four occupants who wanted to travel from Kiel-Holtenau Airport via Rotenburg to Friedrichshafen in Baden-Württemberg were killed in the accident .

On August 1st, 2015, the Ferdinands Feld Festival - a music festival of electronic dance music (EDM) as well as house , hardstyle and techno - took place for the first time in the presence of around 4,000 visitors. The festival is now repeated annually with the participation of more than 10,000 visitors (as of 2018).

Airfield

The airfield has two grass runways with a width of 40 m and 30 m and lengths of 750 m and 1200 m. In addition, the airfield has an asphalt runway with a width of 30 m and a length of 806 m ( orientation 08/26 ). Night flights are possible and lights are available.

The airfield can be approached with motor-powered aircraft up to a weight of 5.7 t. Prior approval is required for heavier aircraft .

Refueling with the common fuels AVGAS , MOGAS , Jet A1 is possible at the filling station.

Flight operations

The airfield is used by numerous charter companies, flight schools and flight clubs. Due to the three runways, storage facilities in the hangar and a bistro on the premises, this airfield is often used as a stopover.

In good weather, the airfield is also a magnet for private glider pilots, motor gliders, ultralight aircraft or hot air balloons.

Operating times

Flight operations are possible daily from 10:00 a.m. to sunset, no later than 7:00 p.m. local time without prior approval. The rest of the time, the airfield can be used by obtaining a permit ( PPR ).

On working days from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and after 7:00 p.m. as well as on Sundays and public holidays before 10:00 a.m. and after 1:00 p.m., only departing to and arriving after overland flights for motor-powered aircraft are permitted. On Sundays and public holidays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., take-offs are only permitted with aircraft that meet the increased noise protection requirements.
