Frederick Conboy

Frederick Joseph Conboy (born December 1, 1882 in Toronto , Ontario , † March 29, 1949 in Toronto, Ontario) was a Canadian dentist, politician and 47th mayor of Toronto.

Life

Frederick Conboy was born in Toronto's West End, one of five children of James and Sarah Conboy. After finishing school, he studied dentistry at the University of Toronto and began practicing dentistry in 1905. From 1926 to 1935 he was the director of the dental service in the Ontario State Health Department. In 1935 and 1936 he was elected to the city council. There he initiated measures against unemployment and sat down u. a. for urban planning and health care. He also supported the construction of the Toronto City Center Airport and the expansion of the port facilities. From 1941 to 1944 he was elected mayor. In the final year of his tenure, he was appointed chairman of the Canadian Mayors' AssociationCanadian Federation of Mayor elected.

Frederick Conboy was married twice. He had a son with his first wife, who died in 1913. In 1940, Conboy married a second time. He was a member of the Conservative Party of Canada and a member of the Orange Order .
