Oliver Aiken Howland

Oliver Aiken Howland (born April 18, 1847 in Lambton Mills, Ontario ; † November 9, 1904 ) was a lawyer, politician and the 31st mayor of Toronto . Howland was a member of the Ontario Conservative Party .

Howland was born in Lambton Mills, now Etobicoke , as the son of the politician William Pearce Howland . Its ancestors can be traced back to the Mayflower landing . He went to school at Upper Canada College . He studied law at the University of Toronto and practiced in Toronto since 1875. Howland was vice president of the Canadian Bar Association and served on the council of the Canadian Institute from 1894 to 1895 . From June 26, 1894 to January 28, 1898 he was a member of the Parliament of the Provincial Government of Ontario. From January 1901 to January 1903 he was mayor of Toronto. His older brother William Holmes Howland also served as mayor.
