Hiram McCallum
Hiram Emerson McCallum (born August 14, 1899 in Caledon East, † January 13, 1989 ) was the 49th mayor of Toronto .
Hiram McCallum's family moved from Caledon East in what was then Peel County to Toronto in 1901 , where he attended school. In 1918 he was employed by the Farmer's Sun newspaper and soon became its commercial director. He switched to Ontario Press and founded his own company in 1931, specializing in advertising printing. He was elected to Toronto City Council from 1941 to 1943 and was a member of the Control Committee from 1943 to 1948. He was then mayor of the city from 1948 to 1951. He became the director of the Canadian National Exhibition and was a member of the city planning commission, which he chaired in 1961/62. McCallum was a member of several sports clubs and was in the Orange Order . Hiram McCallum was married to Margaret McCallum, with whom he had a daughter.
