Barbara Hall

Barbara Hall (* 1946 ) is a Canadian lawyer and former politician. She was the 61st mayor of Toronto from December 1, 1994 to December 31, 1997 . On November 28, 2005, she was appointed chief representative of the Ontario Human Rights Commission for three years .

Hall attended the University of Victoria in British Columbia for some time , later moving to Nova Scotia . She studied at the York University belonging Osgoode Hall Law School Law and received her approval for the Law Society of Upper Canada , a legal association in Canada.

Barbara Hall ran against incumbent June Rowlands as a candidate for mayor in 1993 and won the election. As a non-party, she was supported by the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP). Their success came as a surprise because at the same time the NDP-Governor of Ontario , Bob Rae , was the low point of his popularity. In 1997 she lost office when Mel Lastman ran against her. In 2003, she tried another candidacy for mayor with the support of the Ontario Liberal Party , but lost to David Miller .
