Grävenitz belongs to the village of Schorstedt and is a district of the town of Bismark (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

The Altmark village Grävenitz located 10 kilometers northeast of the town Bismark (Altmark) halfway between Bismark and Osterburg.

history

The church village was first mentioned in 1287 as Greunitz . In 1330 Greueniz is mentioned in a donation from Otto by the knight Konrad von Osterburg to the Neuendorf monastery . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the place is listed as Greuenitze . The place was the ancestral seat of the noble family von Graevenitz . In 1840 only 94 inhabitants lived in the village, in 1900 there were 138, in 1939 there were even 169.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1973, the Grävenitz community was dissolved by being incorporated into the Schorstedt community . Since January 1, 2010, the district of Grävenitz has also belonged to the newly formed village of Schorstedt in the city of Bismark (Altmark).
