Grassau is a district of the town of Bismark (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

geography

The Altmark village of Grassau is around 13 km as the crow flies from the district town of Stendal in a south-easterly direction . The terrain around Grassau is slightly hilly and has larger forest areas in the northwest.

history

The place, laid out as a Wendish Rundling , appears for the first time in a document in 1238. The church was built from field stones in the second half of the 12th century. The von Jeetze family owned properties in Grassau.

Until December 31, 2009, Grassau was an independent municipality with the associated districts of Bülitz and Grünenwulsch .

The council of the community of Grassau decided on June 25th, 2009 to approve an area change agreement, whereby their community was dissolved and part of a new unified community called the city ​​of Bismark (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

A local council with five members including the local mayor was formed in the incorporated community and now the village of Grassau.

Regular buses run by Regionalverkehr Westsachsen (RVW) under the brand name stendalbus . In addition, until 1950 Grassau owned a station on the Peulingen – Bismark line . Since the shutdown of the small train, the nearest train station is in the neighboring town of Kläden ( Stendal – Uelzen line ).
