history
The name of the community is probably derived from the Alemannic term for rest area, courtyard. Höfen came from the large community of Aschau. Höfen itself was first mentioned in a document in 1427 and is one of the youngest settlements in Ausserfern. Before the construction of the bridge from Reutte to Lechaschau, the transport of salt and the rafting of wood on the Lech played an important role, as there was a ford over the Lech to Ehenbichl.
At the beginning of the 17th century, flax cultivation played a role, from which the Reutte textile factory developed. An important company is the company Koch Media with the distribution of CDs and DVDs with subsidiaries in Europe. This helps the community to achieve a balanced commuter balance.
In 1956 the airfield (the only one in the district) was opened for glider pilots, which is now also approved for single-engine powered aircraft.
The place is on the long-distance cycle path , which runs as the Via Claudia Augusta along an ancient Roman road of the same name .

coat of arms
Blazon :
- "In gold a blue flax blossom over a blue angular base covered with a golden house."
The municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1977, symbolizes the place name with the house and, with the flax blossom, refers to the previously important flax cultivation. The colors of the municipality flag are yellow-blue.
