Handball GDR Oberliga (men) 1976/77
The handball GDR league of men 1976/77 was the top division in indoor handball in the GDR and determined the GDR champions of the current season.
Season course
The 1976/77 season of the league began June 12, 1976 and ended on April 2, 1977. After a double round with 18 match days, the league was split into two. The first five teams played in another double round for the championship, as did the lower five teams against relegation. This resulted in a higher number of points for the teams in sixth and seventh place than for those placed before. The new champions became the SC Magdeburg with nine points ahead of the runner-up ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt . Defending champion SC Leipzig was only in seventh place after the main round and had to continue the season in the relegation round, where he ended up in sixth place at the end of the season. For the 1976/77 season the relegation to relegation had been abolished, so that the two bottom of the table BSG Motor Eisenach and BSG Chemie Premnitz had to relegate immediately. The BSG bismuth Aue reached third place, the best result of a company sports club in the East German handball history since the introduction of the single-track league 1,964th
