Hans-Martin Scholder

Hans-Martin Scholder (* 1959 in Münsingen , Baden-Württemberg) is a German set designer , scenographer , graphic artist , designer and director . His projects and works move freely between painting , sculpture, design , architecture and action art. He teaches in Frankfurt at the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory as a lecturer for performing games and is a teacher at Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium .

Life

Scholder initially trained as a graphic designer before he received training in the architecture office and studio of Hanns and Knut Lohrer in Stuttgart- Bergheim . During this time freelance work in exhibition architecture such as B. Scenic areas and rooms in the projects: Fedeau Container for the Center Pompidou in Paris, redesign of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, staged rooms for the Napoleon exhibition , collaboration in the design of the International Design Congress and scenic rooms for the museum for technology and work in Mannheim. In 1989 he was hired by Jürgen Rose and later by Robert Wilson as a personal assistant. Wilson shaped Scholder's purist, pointed style of design, his “visual decisiveness”, as he himself called it. After two years as an assistant at the Salzburg Festival , at the Chekhov Art Theater in Moscow and the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin, he got his first engagement at the Zurich Opera House with the opera Don Carlos , directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff . Since 1989 he has been working as a freelance set designer in Berlin with many directors, choreographers and conductors such as: Lehnhoff, John Neumeier , Peter Stein , Marc Albrecht , Ádám Fischer , Renate Ackermann , Friedrich Meyer-Oertel , Verena Weiss, Hellmuth Matiasek , Ivan Liska, Konstanze Lauterbach , Thomas Krupa, Karin von Aroldingen, Thomas Langhoff and the composers Detlev Glanert , Cornelius Pöpel, 1999 meeting with Karlheinz Stockhausen , 2017 with Bazon Brock .

He has been a freelance artist since 1990. He designs experimental room and figure concepts and works as a graphic designer, scenographer and installation artist. In addition, he takes on assignments for stage and costume design for opera , drama , ballet , experimental music and performance . In addition to his theater work, Scholder works as a painter, draftsman and designer, but also as a lecturer and teacher at various schools and universities. Since 2008 Scholder has been a lecturer at Ansbach University of Applied Sciences in the multimedia and communication course and at the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory (performing arts) in Frankfurt am Main. Since 2002 he has led various workshops and seminars at the Technical University of Delft , the University of Design in Detmold and the German Werkbund . He also teaches art at the Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main.

In 2002 Scholder moved from Berlin to Frankfurt am Main and soon began to work as a director . At the Bozen Opera and Rovigo Opera in 2007, the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach together with the choreographer Ismael Ivo - Scholder's first own productions came on stage. Since then, he has also directed his own work in a wide variety of projects in Frankfurt. The stage work developed through his painting and model work, in which he was later director, set and lighting designer at the same time, he developed into a cross-genre event between dance , theater and performance .
