history
Until the 19th century
Hausen was first mentioned in a document between 863 and 885. The settlement of tanna monachorum , today's Herrnwahlthann, was created in the 9th century. Hausen belonged to the Straubing Rent Office and the Kelheim Regional Court of the Electorate of Bavaria . The barons of Kreittmayr owned an open Hofmark there .
In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , the municipality of Hausen was created with the municipal edict of 1818 . In 1978, in the course of the municipal area reform, today's large municipality of Hausen was created through the merger with the municipalities of Großmuß and Herrnwahlthann (renamed in 1900 from Thann).
On April 19, 1809, the battle of Teugn-Hausen between Austrian and French troops took place on the heights north of the town during Napoleon's 5th coalition war .
Incorporations
On January 1, 1978, the previously independent communities Großmuß and Herrnwahlthann were incorporated.

In the period from 1988 to 2018, the population increased from 1,710 to 2,146 by 436 inhabitants or 25.5%.

The community is a member of the Langquaid administrative community .
mayor
In March 2014 , Erwin Ranftl (Free Voters) was elected mayor as the successor to Alfons Haumer Jr. (Free Voters). In the mayoral election on March 15, 2020 , he could no longer be run as a candidate. Instead, Johannes Brunner (Free Voters), who had been Deputy Mayor since January 1, 2018, was elected first Mayor with 54.9% of the votes in the ballot. He prevailed against two competitors.
Municipal council
The municipal council consists of 14 people. In the 2020–2026 electoral term, the composition is as follows:
- Free voters (FW): 8 seats
- Christian Social Union / Independent Voters (CSU / UW): 5 seats
- Non-party citizens of the community of Hausen (PB): 1 seat

Economy including agriculture and forestry
In 1998, according to official statistics, there were eight employees in the field of agriculture and forestry, 194 in the manufacturing sector and five in the field of trade and transport at the place of work. In other economic sectors there were 56 people. There were 678 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There was one in the manufacturing sector and nine in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 78 farms with an agricultural area of 1828 ha, of which 1658 ha were arable land and 168 ha were permanent green space.
