history
Early history
The first documentary mention of Heiningen comes from a document from the year 1228 stored in the Abbey Archives in St.Gallen, at that time it was still called Huningen . An important document for Heiningen was made out on August 27, 1284 in Heilbronn. At the request of Duke Konrad von Teck , to whose rule Heiningen belonged, King Rudolf von Habsburg granted the place the right of the city of Freiburg in a letter of freedom . With the receipt of Freiburg city rights, Heiningen had all the privileges of a medieval city. This included civil liberty, market rights and jurisdiction, but also the right to build walls and ditches and to use coats of arms and seals.
When King Rudolf died in 1291 and Konrad von Teck also died in 1292, the rule of the Dukes of Teck fell apart and Heiningen lacked the necessary support. In 1321 the impoverished sons of Konrad had to sell parts of their property, which Heiningen and Boll belonged to, to Eberhard von Württemberg . This gave preference to the town of Göppingen, which already belonged to him, and incorporated Heiningen into the Göppingen office. Heiningen sank again to the level of a market town. There is evidence of a school in the village since 1466. During the Thirty Years War , Heiningen was looted and destroyed by imperial troops in 1634. Because of this and because of the plague , the population fell from almost 1,000 to around 200.
20th century
After the Second World War , many displaced persons settled in Heiningen, which led to a considerable increase in the population.
Religions
Heiningen has been evangelical since the Reformation . The previous evangelical parish merged with the previous evangelical parish of Eschenbach on December 1, 2019 to form the evangelical parish of Eschenbach-Heiningen . The influx of expellees after the Second World War also led to the establishment of a Roman Catholic parish, which is also responsible for Eschenbach . There was also a New Apostolic Church in Heiningen until 2008 .

Evangelical Michaelskirche
A church was first mentioned in 1228. The St. Michael's Church with former fortified church function is located in a former cemetery. The patronage came from the local lords to Württemberg, who exchanged it in 1393 for the Adelberg monastery . In 1398 the Gothic nave was decorated with frescoes: a depiction of Christopher , a rare cross nailing and a so-called "volto santo", a depiction of the crucifixion with a clad Christ. In 1493 the old choir was demolished and in 1514 a new one with a star vault, together with the sacristy, was completed. A high altar that had already been planned was no longer realized because the peasants' war and the introduction of the Reformation in Württemberg interrupted the building history. As part of the church renovation in 1904 by the Stuttgart architect Richard Böklen , the center tracery window in the choir was designed by Rudolf Yelin the Elder. Ä. designed with the motif of the resurrection of Christ . In 1954, Helmuth Uhrig created a memorial to the fallen. There are three bells hanging in the church tower, including an old St. Mary's bell, which was used as a storm bell in a defensive tower until 1731 and was surely cast before 1350; Two bells from 1493 and 1612 are rung.
