Hellweg network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hellweg network consists of four regional rail lines in Westphalia with a length of about 370 kilometers together. On December 14, 2008, the Eurobahn took over the network that was previously operated by DB Regio NRW .

The lines are the

Tender

The Hellweg network was first put out to tender in March 2006. It was one of the largest rail networks to be awarded in Germany. Has applied Abellio Rail NRW , DB Regio NRW, Arriva Germany (now Netinera ), Rhenus Keolis and the Hamburg elevated railway along with the Bielefeld transportation companies moBiel . The winner of the tender was what was then Rhenus Keolis GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture that was shared between the two shareholders on January 1, 2007. Under the brand name Euro train that took Keolis Germany GmbH & Co. KG to the operation. In February 2015, the special purpose association NWL took the lead again in tendering the Hellweg network for the period 12/2018 to 12/2030 for other transport authorities. On October 5, 2015, the NWL announced before the deadline for objection that Keolis with the Eurobahn brand would remain operator of the Hellweg network. The press release announced higher seating capacities and an increased train escort quota from December 2018.

General

Repair hall in Heessen and Stadler Flirt of the Eurobahn

The contract to operate the Hellweg network was signed on July 14, 2008. It covers a volume of 5.6 million train kilometers per year and is valid for ten years. Contractual partners are the local transport association Paderborn-Höxter (nph), the transport association Rhein-Ruhr (VRR), VerkehrsVerbund OstWestfalenLippe (VVOWL), Zweckverband Ruhr-Lippe (ZRL) and Zweckverband SPNV Münsterland (ZVM) as the responsible authority and the Eurobahn as operator.

The existing timetable was retained. The Eurobahn procured 25 new four-part Flirt railcars for operation on the Hellweg network , which are manufactured by Stadler Rail . This replaced older Deutsche Bahn vehicles. The increased comfort of the new multiple units and the fully functional ticket machines on the train were positively received by the passengers.

A repair hall was built in Heessen . The Flirt railcars of the Eurobahn are serviced there. The workshop is designed for 43 vehicles. It was fully operational in the summer of 2009. The company would like to employ 200 people there.

The Lüner connects Dortmund via Lünen with Münster .

On its way from Dortmund Central Station to Münster (Westphalia) Central Station, the line first runs over a section of the Dortmund – Enschede railway line . From the Prussian railway station in Lünen-Horstmar , it travels the Preußen – Münster railway line , which is only single-tracked from Lünen.

development

The RB 50 got off to a difficult start. Because the repair hall in Heessen was not yet completed, all new railcars were serviced at the WestfalenBahn plant in Rheine . Therefore, bottlenecks often arose, which initially forced the use of only one-piece multiple units. In the winter of 2008/2009, the entire Hellweg network was affected, but the RB 50 was most often used in one-piece trains, which reduced the space available for passengers and resulted in overcrowded trains.

The condition of a platform in the Prussian railway station (named after the former Prussian colliery), which serves the districts of Horstmar and Lünen-Süd , prompted the Federal Railway Authority at the beginning of May to forbid trains from stopping in its curved area. As a first reaction, the Eurobahn only ran short, one-piece trains that did not have to stop in the affected platform area. In mid-May, two-part units drove again as originally planned, but without stopping the trains with the direction of Dortmund in Prussia, which also solved the problem. This meant that the Prussian station was only served by the RB 51 "Westmünsterland-Bahn" running parallel between Lünen and Dortmund in this direction. From May 20, 2009, the Eurobahn deployed additional staff as handling assistants in the Prussian train station, so that the scheduled operation was possible as planned. The Eurobahn asked DB Station & Service, as the owner of the railway facilities, to take remedial action. As a result, the platform was not rebuilt until September 2009.

A comprehensive renovation of the platforms (initially track 1) and the Prussian train station began after long preliminary planning in June 2014. Completion was planned for mid-2015, but was significantly delayed. Construction work on track 2 is planned for later. The inauguration of the renovated train station and the new railway tracks took place at the beginning of 2017.

With the timetable change in December 2018, five new five-car Flirt 3 multiple units of the Eurobahn will replace the previous four-car vehicles on the line. As a result, the number of seats available for double units increases from 434 to 540 seats per train. As a result of this measure, four four-part reserve vehicles are available in the new Hellweg network transport contract, which are to be used in the future to increase journeys during rush hour and for special traffic.

Offer

The RB 50 runs every hour of the week. The line between Dortmund and Lünen is reinforced by the RB 51 (Westmünsterlandbahn), which continues from Lünen via Gronau to Enschede.

development

The RB 59 was introduced on December 15, 2002 and replaced the RE 19 Hellweg Express , which had the same route. The RE 19 was created in 1998 when the NRW cycle was introduced.

The Eurobahn replaced three-part push-pull train sets from the DB Regio NRW. They consisted of modernized, red n-wagons and class 110 locomotives , long-serving vehicles from the times of the Federal Railroad. At the end of 2007, these trains were so often affected by soiling and technical defects that the Ruhr-Lippe association asked for the Eurobahn to take over operations early in November 2007. However, this could not be realized.

Offer

The line runs every half hour from Monday to Saturday and every hour on Sundays. In Soest, the connection to the RB 89 line towards Paderborn is guaranteed. With the timetable change in December 2018, the Saturday half-hourly service that was canceled in December 2007 was reintroduced.

The Ems-Börde-Bahn consists of the two lines RB 69 and RB 89, which connect Bielefeld and Paderborn every half hour on weekdays and every hour on weekends and public holidays with Hamm and Münster . The route to Hamm is driven from Münster . From there, the RB 69 follows the Hamm – Minden line to Bielefeld, the RB 89 the Hamm – Warburg line .

development

The predecessor was the Westfalenbahn operated by DB Regio NRW from Bielefeld / Paderborn via Hamm, Münster to Rheine . Because the name was identical with the Westfalenbahn GmbH, which was founded in 2005, the name was changed to Ems-Börde-Bahn . With the start of operations, the train connection previously operated by the DB was given up on the Ostwestfalen-Bahn ( Herford –Paderborn). For passengers from the Lippe district, this means an additional change in Paderborn. Individual trains in the morning and evening hours ran from December 2010 to December 2016 from / to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe . Some trains from / to Warburg did not stop at the Borgeln, Dedinghausen, Ehringhausen and Scharmede stations on weekends until December 2018.

Offer

The RB 89 train route between Münster and Paderborn runs every half hour from Monday to Friday and every hour on weekends. The RB 69 Münster - Bielefeld runs every hour. This train movement is connected to Hamm with the RB 89, there occurs a flights averaging of the draft parts.

The train section RB 89 runs from Hamm via Soest , Lippstadt to Paderborn, and every two hours to Warburg . Intercity Express , Intercity and Regional Express trains also run from Hamm . In Warburg there is a connection to the Regional Express in the direction of Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe.

The train section RB 69 runs from Hamm via Ahlen , Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Gütersloh to Bielefeld. This line branch strengthens the offer of the Rhein-Weser-Express (Cologne - Minden ) to every half hour. These compounds are supplemented by the likewise but over between Münster and Bielefeld Warendorf circulating RB 67 The Warendorf . Although this line runs a shorter distance between Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Münster, the Ems-Börde-Bahn via Hamm is about 10 minutes faster due to its higher average speed. Ems-Börde-Bahn and Der Warendorfer both serve the cities of Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Gütersloh in addition to the same endpoints. There are also Intercity Express and Intercity connections between Hamm and Bielefeld .

The connection from Bielefeld via Hamm to Paderborn, which changes the line number in Hamm, is rarely used continuously by a train, which enables a change-free journey from Bielefeld or Gütersloh to Soest or Paderborn.
