Huai'an ( Chinese 淮安 市 , Pinyin Huái'ān Shì ) is a district-free city with over 4.8 million inhabitants (2010 census) in the Chinese province of Jiangsu . 1.5 million people live in the actual urban settlement area of Huai'an (as of 2010).
It is the hometown of the former Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China , Zhou Enlai , and the novelist Wu Cheng'en . To the north of Huai'an is the city of Suqian .
Administrative structure
At the county level, Huai'an is made up of four boroughs and three counties. These are:
- District Qingjiangpu -清江浦区Qīngjiāngpǔ Qū ;
- Hongze District - 洪泽 区Hóngzé Qū ;
- Huai'an District - 淮安 区Huái'ān Qū ;
- Huaiyin District - 淮阴 区Huáiyīn Qū ;
- District Jinhu -金湖县Jinhu Xiàn ;
- Xuyi County - 盱眙县Xūyí Xiàn ;
- District Lianshui -涟水县Liánshuǐ Xiàn .
Transportation
tram
On December 28, 2015, the first line of the Huai'an tram went into operation. The 20.3 km long route runs from northwest to southeast and has 23 stops. There are 26 4-part tracks available, which were supplied by CRRC Zhuzhou. The line has no overhead line. The batteries are charged at the bus stops.
