Italia in Miniatura is an amusement and miniature park opened in 1970 in Viserba , a town in Rimini .

Description and location

In the park, visitors will find 273 miniatures of well-known Italian and European sights on a scale of 1:25 and 1:50, including miniatures of the Reichstag building in Berlin , the Eiffel Tower in Paris or St. Peter's Square or the Colosseum in an open space modeled on the Italian boot Rome . The area is circled by a monorail called Arcobaleno ( Italian : rainbow ) , which reaches a height of up to 6 m at 12 km / h. 10,000 plants and 5,000 miniature trees are integrated into the landscape . 2,500 m 3 of water are required to fill the water surface . 17 miniature trains run in the facility.

On a partial area of 12,000 m 2 is Venice , a replica of the Grand Canal of Venice with replicas of 119 buildings at a scale of 1: 5, which can be traversed on boats. The Markus Tower on St. Mark's Square , the end point of the journey, has a height of 20 meters.

In Cannonacqua , a replica of Sismondo Castle in Rimini, water cannons can be used to recreate medieval battles between the noble families of Montefeltro and Malatesta for the castle.

There is also the whitewater canoe , the Parrot Park Pappamondo , and the Luna Park della Scienza with physical experiments for children. Since 2011, in the YouMini project, park visitors have been miniaturized in a 1:33 format using a photo scan.

The park is open daily from March to September and daily in the other months. It is located directly on Strada Statale 16 Adriatica about 5 km north of the center of Rimini.

Italia in Miniatura was designed by Ivo Rambaldi . He had the idea for this after visiting the Swiss miniature park Swissminiatur in Melide . After three years of preparation and three hundred million lire (about 155,000 euros ) in construction costs, the park was opened on July 4th 1970 to originally 20,000 m 2 with 50 miniatures at the time and has been continuously expanded since then. The first miniature completed was that of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, near Ravenna , Rambaldi's hometown. Venice opened in 1992 after nine years of construction. The miniatures are made of resin ( resin ) by the company General display in San Mauro Pascoli made, who also works for other theme parks. Italia in Miniatura is a member of the International Association of Miniature Parks .
