Jacques Swaters (born October 30, 1926 in Brussels ; † December 10, 2010 there ) was a Belgian racing driver and racing team owner.

Career

Jacques Swaters made his racing debut at the Spa 24 Hours in 1948, together with his compatriot Paul Frère as the second pilot, on a MG .

In 1950 Swaters was one of the founders of the "Ecurie Belgique", which competed in sports car races and in Formula 1 in the 1950s . Swaters initially drove vehicles from the German brand Veritas . In 1951 he got into Formula 1. André Pilette , who was designated as the driver, was injured, whereupon Swaters drove his first monoposto race at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring . In 1953 he drove the Ferrari 500 of the Ecurie in two world championship races and won the Formula 2 race at the AVUS in autumn .

In 1952 Swaters also founded his own racing team, the Ecurie Francorchamps . In Formula 1, Swaters started with a Ferrari 625F1 , in the sports car world championship with a Jaguar C-Type . Formula racing was only a sideline, Swaters celebrated his greatest successes as a driver in a sports car.

In 1954 he finished fourth with Roger Laurent at the 24 Hours of Le Mans , a success that he even surpassed in 1955 with third place overall. His partner this time was Johnny Claes . In 1956 he rounded off his Le Mans successes with another fourth place. In 1955 and 1956 the racing car was a Jaguar D-Type , in 1956 Freddy Rousselle was his partner.

In 1957, after his last appearance at Le Mans, Swaters withdrew from active racing and from then on took care of the organization of the successful Ecurie Francorchamps.
