Joseph Jakob von Heckenstaller (born July 15, 1748 in Regensburg , † November 7, 1832 in Munich ) was Vicar General and from 1803 to 1818 Vicar Apostolic of the Spiritual Government in Freising .

Life

Heckenstaller was ordained a priest in Regensburg in 1772 . From 1798 he was director of the clerical government in Freising . In 1803 there was a vacancy in the diocese of Freising as a result of secularization in Bavaria . Heckenstaller was appointed Vicar General of the Spiritual Government in Freising by the Archbishop of Salzburg , and a little later he was also given the title of Apostolic Vicar. The previous auxiliary bishop Johann Nepomuk von Wolf carried out the ordinations on behalf of Heckenstaller. In the conflict with the Bavarian elector in 1805/6, the state reorganized the former monastery parishes. A total of 109 parishes from the Salzburg diocese area were also incorporated. On June 5, 1817, a concordat between Pope Pius VII and King Maximilian I Joseph was concluded, which provided for the establishment of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising . Heckenstaller resigned on February 16, 1818 and became the first dean of the new Munich metropolitan chapter . Heckenstaller died in Munich on November 7, 1832.
