The Canton Baugé-en-Anjou is a former French administrative unit in the Arrondissement Saumur in the department of Maine-et-Loire and the region Pays de la Loire ; its main town was Baugé-en-Anjou .

In the course of the reorganization in 2015, the canton was dissolved and its municipalities assigned to the canton of Beaufort-en-Vallée .

geography

The canton was located in the northern part of the Saumur arrondissement on the border with the Sarthe department in a slightly hilly, predominantly agricultural area, but also with the large oak forests of the Chandelais. The area is also called the Baugeois .

The only municipality with over 2,000 inhabitants and the economic and cultural center of the entire Baugeois is the municipality of Baugé-en-Anjou .

On January 1, 2013, the municipality of Baugé-en-Anjou was formed from the municipalities of Baugé , Montpollin , Pontigné , Saint-Martin-d'Arcé and Le Vieil-Baugé . At the same time the municipality Clefs-Val-d'Anjou was formed from the municipalities of Clefs and Vaulandry .
