Lamoine was organized as an independent town on February 11, 1870. The area of ​​Town Lamoine was previously part of Town Trenton. In 1929 there was an exchange of territory with the Town of Hancock.

Settlement of the area began in 1774 when Isaac Gillpatric and his family moved from Biddeford to Lamoine. A little later, a small French colony was established west of the Skillings River. The name Lamoine came from one of the French settlers.

At Blunts Pond some finds were made by AG Berry, human bones, a brass kettle, an ax and a stone file were found between mussel shells.
