The men's 10,000-meter run at the World Athletics Championships in 1987 was held on August 29, 1987 in the Olympic Stadium in the Italian capital, Rome .

World champion was the Kenyan Paul Kipkoech . Second place went to the Italian Vice European Champion of 1986 over 3000 meters obstacle Francesco Panetta , who a week later also won the World Championship title over 3000 meters obstacle here. As at the World Championships four years earlier, bronze went to Hansjörg Kunze from the GDR .
