Liebätz is a part of the municipality Nuthe-Urstromtal in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg .

Geographical location

The place is north of the community center. The neighboring districts and communities are (clockwise): Märtensmühle , Wiesenhagen , Woltersdorf , Ruhlsdorf and Berkenbrück . Much of the area is overgrown with forest and meadows and belongs to the Nuthetal-Beelitzer Sander nature reserve . In the east, the Nuthe flows in a south-north direction through the water-rich area. It is fed in Liebätz by the flowing Illickengraben and the Horst-Wallgraben .

Etymology and history

The meaning of the place name is controversial. Some sources indicate that it was a settler with the name Lubek , others add the Wendish goddess Liuba , while a third interpretation gives the Slavic word for deep or low-lying place .

According to tradition, traces of Slavic settlements are known from the 6th to the 12th century. The first documentary mention is in 1226 as Lubetz , later Lubecz , but also Lubetzk , Lubeetz and Liebäz . In 1285 it belonged to the Zinna monastery in Jüterbog .

In 1598 the established church in the midst of the winder a religious building . In 1605 there was a major fire in which the farms were destroyed. Shortly after it was rebuilt, Swedish soldiers destroyed the village in the Thirty Years' War . Some residents were able to flee to the 44.7 meter high Liezenberg to the east. The village did not fall into desolation , but was rebuilt, albeit only in 1655 with a new church. In the village from 1813 a fiefdom school , nine farmers, two kötter , five Büdner, a schoolhouse, a community cowherd's house and a horse and swineherd's house have come down to us. This allows the conclusion that the animals in the village were looked after together. There was also a tailor, five looms and four weavers with two assistants. However, the main occupation was fishing - from Liebätz in particular the southern Luckenwalde was supplied. The residents paid two bushels of rye to the Zinna office for their fishing rights . In the middle of the 19th century, the church tower had to be propped up - the structure became dilapidated and threatened to collapse. In 1856 the parish therefore built a new, neo-Gothic hall church . By 1860 silted lake Lubetza and thus ended also fishing in Liebätz. At the same time, the weaving mill struggled with the emerging competition from Luckenwalde and finally had to be stopped too. On May 1, 1945, in the course of the Second World War, there was a bombardment by artillery . The church burned down; other buildings were badly damaged. Reconstruction began in 1950 and was completed in 1952 when the church was consecrated again.

Before the Nuthe-Urstromtal community was founded in 1993, Liebätz was part of the Märtensmühle community. Since then it has been an independent district within the new municipality.
