List of former railway lines in Japan
This is the list of the former railroad lines in Japan on which passenger and / or freight traffic was carried out. It is arranged according to the regions of Japan and is structured as follows:
- Name of the route: self-explanatory (some names are non-binding translations into German)
- Railway company: Last operator of the route in question (the original Japanese name is usually used)
- Gauge: Indicates the width of the track. In Japan, the Cape gauge of 1067 mm clearly predominates , while the normal gauge of 1435 mm is hardly widespread.
- Length: Indicates the length of the route in kilometers.
- Electricity system: Names the traction current system used on the route (= stands for direct voltage , ~ for alternating voltage , non-electrified routes are marked with -).
- from: year of opening
- until: year of shutdown
- Notes: Special information about the route
