List of railway lines in Japan
This is the list of railway lines in Japan on which passenger and / or freight traffic is carried out (as of 2017). It does not include trams, subways, light rail vehicles, monorails, people mover systems, cable cars and train lines in amusement parks.
The list is structured as follows:
- Name of the route: self-explanatory (some names are non-binding translations into German)
- Railway company: operator of the route in question (the original Japanese name is usually used)
- Gauge: Indicates the width of the track. In Japan, the Cape gauge of 1067 mm clearly predominates , while the normal gauge of 1435 mm is hardly widespread.
- Length: Indicates the length of the route in kilometers.
- Electricity system: Names the traction current system used on the route (= stands for direct voltage , ~ for alternating voltage , non-electrified routes are marked with -).
- Region: States the region in which the route is located ( Chūbu , Chūgoku , Hokkaidō , Kansai , Kantō , Kyūshū , Shikoku , Tōhoku ).
- Notes: Special information about the route
