List of heaps in the Ruhr area
The heaps in the Ruhr emerged in the Ruhr area , especially as heaps of Ruhr mining . A distinction is made between different forms, the older is the simple pointed cone slope, the younger forms have terraces.
Some heaps tower over their surroundings by more than 100 meters and are among the highest peaks in the northern Ruhr area. The regional association Ruhr owns 30 mine dumps, whose recreational value it had improved through various installations. Still open heaps are mostly owned by the mining mines or municipalities.
Other, less high dumps are landfills for slag from steel production and landfills for construction waste or garbage .
