Ljantor ( Russian Лянтор ) is a city in Western Siberia , in the Khanty and Mansi Autonomous Okrug / Ugra ( Russia ) with 38,992 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the West Siberian lowlands north of the Ob on its tributary Pim , about 80 km northwest of Surgut . The climate is continental.
The city of Ljantor is administratively subordinate to the Surgut district .
history
In 1932 a fishing village of the same name was built on the banks of the Pim River. In 1965 exploratory drilling began in the area; the discovered oil deposit was named Ljantorskoje (Лянторское месторождение) after a nearby lake . Since 1967, a geological and oil workers' settlement was established , which was officially named Ljantorski (Лянторский) in 1978 and urban-type settlement in 1980 . In 1984 the old village of Pim became part of the settlement. The place has had municipal rights since 1992.

Culture and sights
In Ljantor there has been an ethnographic museum on the culture of the indigenous people of the Khanty since 1989 , which also includes an open-air exhibition.
economy
Lyantor is a center of the oil production on the deposits Ljantorskoje and Nischnesortymskoje (Нижнесортымское, Low Sortym). The company Ljantorneft (Лянторнефть) located here belongs to the Surgutneftegas (Сургутнефтегаз) concern.
