Masat-1 ( Magyar Satellite-1 ) is a technology trial satellite with Cubesat architecture built at the Budapest University of Technology . After the successful launch, the satellite received the additional amateur radio satellite designations OSCAR 72 and MO-72 ( Magyar OSCAR 72 ). It is the first Hungarian satellite.
Project
The Masat 1 project was started in September 2007 by students and doctoral candidates from the Technical University of Budapest. The aim of the project is the development and construction of the basic subsystems for a satellite mission as well as the gathering of experience with the associated project management, logistics, test procedures and the arrangement of a launch opportunity in earth orbit.
The satellite itself will test the power system, the amateur radio - transceiver and the onboard computer.
The satellite has an orbital lifespan of about four years in its orbit.
construction
The satellite has a cubic aluminum structure and is covered on all sides with solar cells for energy supply. The following systems are on board:
- an on-board computer
- a system for position determination and regulation
- a power supply system
- a communication system in the amateur radio sector
- a camera with a 640 × 480 pixel image sensor and a resolution of 1 - 10 km
The satellite sends a telemetry and image signal with 100 or 400 mW transmission power at 437.345 MHz in the 70 cm band . His callsign is HA5MASAT. The data sent by the satellite is not encrypted. The ground station sends encrypted commands in the 2 m band to the satellite.
Mission history
The satellite was launched on February 13, 2012 as a secondary payload with a Vega rocket from Center Spatial Guyanais .
reception
In 2012 the Hungarian Post dedicated a 310 forint postage stamp to the satellite . The stamp was issued on April 12, 2012 and shows the Masat-1 satellite in earth orbit and the Hungarian state flag.
