Məhəmmədrəsul Yusub oğlu Məcidov (internationally also Magomedrasul Majidov , born September 27, 1986 in Urchuchimachi , Dagestani ASSR , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is an Azerbaijani heavyweight professional boxer .
Amateur career
He won the international Umakhanov Memorial Tournament in Russia in 2009 and competed in the 2010/2011 World Series of Boxing , where he won each of his seven fights, including against Rustam Saidov and Tony Yoka . In the final of the individual ranking he was defeated by the Italian Clemente Russo on points.
At the 2011 World Championships in Baku , he won the gold medal. He defeated Sardor Abdullayev from Uzbekistan in the preliminary round and Isaias Mena from Colombia in the round of 16 and moved into the quarter-finals. There he was able to surprisingly defeat the Cuban favorite Erislandy Savón prematurely and prevailed in the semifinals against Ivan Dytschko from Kazakhstan 16: 9. In the final that followed, he won just under 22:21 against the Englishman Anthony Joshua .
In 2012 he won the international Great Silk Way Tournament in Azerbaijan and started at the Summer Olympics in London . He defeated Meji Mwamba from the Congo in the preliminary round and the reigning European champion Magomed Omarow from Russia in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals he met the Italian Roberto Cammarelle and lost against him by 12:13.
In June 2013 he won the European Championships in Minsk . He prevailed in the super heavyweight division against Mihai Nistor from Romania, the Belarusian Wiktar Sujeu and the Russian Sergei Kusmin . At the 2013 World Championships in Almaty , he won against Cam Awesome, Magomed Omarow , Roberto Cammarelle and Iwan Dytschko and thus secured his second gold medal at a World Cup.
At the 2015 European Games in Baku , Məcidov was unable to play in the semi-finals due to injury and thus won a bronze medal. At the European Olympic qualification tournament in 2016, he defeated Guido Vianello and Ali Eren Demirezen before losing 2-1 in the final against Joseph Joyce with a judge's vote and thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . At the Olympics, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Iwan Dytschko , after he had previously defeated Mohamed Arjaoui .
At the 2017 European Championships, he lost to Djamili-Dini Aboudou in the quarter-finals . At the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , he won his third World Cup gold medal by beating Qamschybek Qongqabajew in the final . He had previously defeated Joseph Goodall , Djamili-Dini Aboudou and Hussein Iashaish , among others .
Professional career
In September 2019, Məcidov signed a professional contract with promoter Matchroom Boxing USA and won his debut on September 13, 2019.
