Malin Byström
Malin Byström (born September 3, 1973 in Helsingborg ) is a Swedish opera and concert singer with a soprano voice .
Life
Youth and education
Byström was born in Helsingborg. She attended school in Härnösand , studied music for four years at the University of Gothenburg and then trained as a soprano at the Stockholm Opera School .
Career
In 2000, Malin Byström sang Fiorella in Il turco in Italia by Gioachino Rossini at the Lübeck Theater and was a member of the Nuremberg opera ensemble in the following two seasons . Here she gave the Musetta in La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini , the Gretel in Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck , the Gilda in Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi , the Annina in One Night in Venice by Johann Strauss , the Hermine in Philippe Boesman's Winter Tale and Pamina in The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .
Malin Byström has been working as a freelancer since 2002 and has had engagements at the Bregenz Festival (as Musetta), at the Royal Opera House (as Amalia in Verdi's I masnadieri ), at the Nationaltheater Mannheim (as Musetta), in Montpellier (as Susanna in Sancta Susanna von Paul Hindemith ), in Los Angeles (as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni , conducted by Kent Nagano ) and at Opera North in Leeds (in the title role of Jules Massenet's Manon and as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte ). She sang Così fan tutte in the spring of 2006 in Lyon under the direction of William Christie .
In the 2006/2007 opera season, Byström gave Donna Anna concerts in Örebro with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Lawrence Renes as well as with René Jacobs in Baden-Baden . Another role this season had as Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar in Montpellier . Her opera debut in Sweden it was only in autumn 2007, when she Marguerite in Faust by Charles Gounod at the GöteborgsOperan sang.
Her repertoire also includes the title role in Massenets Thaïs , which she sang in the Palau de les Arts in Valencia with Plácido Domingo and for the Göteborgsoperan , as well as Amelia in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra , Romilda in Serse by Georg Friedrich Handel and the Amelia Grimaldi in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra . She also appeared as Countess Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Beaunes Barock Music Festival and at the Grand Théâtre de Genève , as Agathe in Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber in Bregenz , as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival , in Baden-Baden and at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence .

The New York Times praised her title role in Arabella at the Metropolitan Opera in 2014 , praised the “silvery elegance” of her voice and described Byström as “elegant in appearance and tone ... sounding full and smooth ... reminiscent of Kiri Te Kanawa ”.
Malin Byström is also active on the concert stage in classical vocal works and concert opera performances: she sang Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Elias at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Kurt Masur and with the Orchester National de France in Paris and the soprano part in Ludwig van Beethoven's 9th Symphony in Bonn and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan . She sang Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Herbert Blomstedt , Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under Lawrence Renes and in Stockholm with Ralf Weikert, and Mozart's Great Mass in C minor with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra under Nikolaj Znajder . Other vocal works in her repertoire are Mozart's Requiem , A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms , the Carmina Burana by Carl Orff , the song cycle Des Knaben Wunderhorn by Gustav Mahler and the Messiah by Georg Friedrich Handel . Her appearances under the direction of Eivind Gullberg Jensen have included Kullervo by Jean Sibelius (with the Orchester National de France), Gustav Mahler's 4th Symphony (with the Orchester Philharmonique de Montpellier ) and Strauss's Four Last Songs (with the Orchester National Bordeaux Aquitaine ). In concert performances she gave Mathilde in Guillaume Tell by Gioachino Rossini under the direction of Antonio Pappano with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and at the BBC Proms in London.

She is married to the Swedish baritone Markus Schwartz . You live in Gothenburg and have two children.
