Y-Titty [ waɪˈtɪti ] was a German comedy trio that was mainly active on the YouTube video portal . The group mainly produced skits and parodies and, with over 3.1 million subscribers and over 700 million video views, was the most-subscribed German-language YouTube channel by early June 2014. In 2014 the group won an echo in the “Best Video National” category. The trio worked in their projects as actors, musicians, moderators, video game commentators, producers, authors and designers.
On December 11, 2015, Laude, Roll and Yılmaz announced the breakup of the trio and the withdrawal from the video platform YouTube.
Surname
The name Y-Titty is a corruption of the English abbreviation “Y. T. D. ”, the abbreviation for“ YouTube Dummies ”. YouTube Dummies was a previous Y-Titty project that filmed Jackass- style videos . Some of these videos can be seen on the “YTITTYOldies” channel.
A combination of the letters Y and T is used as the logo, which is similar to the letter Ұ from the Kazakh alphabet .
Members
Y-titty consisted of:
- Phil (initially Louder ), bourgeois Philipp Laude , (born June 29, 1990 in Kappeln )
- TC (initially Tizi ), real name Matthias Roll, (born August 25, 1991 in Roth )
- OG (initially Yılmaz ), bourgeois Oğuz Yılmaz , (born April 17, 1991 in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz )
production
While the videos were initially shot as a leisure activity in the Hilpoltstein area, the clips were later produced by Cologne-based Mediakraft Networks GmbH. Other members of the Mediakraft network could therefore also be seen in the videos of the three as part of cross promotions . Y-Titty has been a YouTube partner since 2009, making money from advertising that is shown before the actual videos are played.
Communication with fans took place via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter as well as via the comments under the videos that were answered in the comment-comment shows - “KomKomShow” for short.
style
Y-Titty mainly produced song parodies, short clips, trailers of alleged film adaptations of iPhone apps, real-life computer games ( GTA , Skyrim and Call of Duty ) and videos about apparently new Apple products. In their second channel (DieJungs) there were also the formats Die Jungs babern and Die Jungs go , in which they give a look behind the scenes and what happens on their travels to different places, as well as Die Jungs comment on that Trio made reference to the comments posted under the videos of the second channel. In addition, making-ofs (“extras”) and so-called Onetaker (video clips without cuts), in which they provide information about current projects or the like, were uploaded. Another format since May 2014 has been the WikiBattle. Well-known YouTubers competed against each other in the tournament. In principle, the task consisted of using a given Wikipedia article to reach another given Wikipedia article as quickly as possible via wiki links.
Y-Titty's own compositions are all musically part of pop music with elements of hip-hop . Most of the parodied songs come from these two genres.
history
2006–2011: creation and dissemination
Y-Titty was founded in 2006 by Phil and TC. They joined YouTube on February 25, 2008. At first, videos were only published sporadically until the television station Premiere became aware of the Hilpoltstein duo and made a pilot film with them. In September 2009, Oğuz Yılmaz joined the group, who acts as the cameraman on many videos.
With parodies of Eminem's and Rihanna's Love the Way You Lie and the novel adaptations Twilight - Bite to the Limits of Love , the trio experienced its breakthrough and became known to a wide audience.
On June 22, 2010, the channel hit 100,000 subscribers. The channel “DieJungs” was also founded on December 17, 2010, in which web shows, vlogs and behind-the-scenes videos are published. In 2010 Phil, TC and OG received the "KIKA LIVE Web Award". In 2010, Y-Titty took part in the recordings for the music video SMS-Song by the music group Die Original Elbtaler Spitzbbart , which was published on iTunes and Amazon.
2011: First single and systematisation
In autumn 2011, Y-Titty announced a regulation. On the one hand, they introduced the FreiTittyTag by uploading a new sketch every Friday. In addition, the KomKomShow (comments-comment show) appeared. This was first uploaded after the parody of Gotyes Somebody That I Used to Know and then appeared every Wednesday. The YouTubers commented on comments on the respective sketch.
Also in autumn 2011 the trio released their first single Stand Time . With their motto “We want to revolutionize German comedy!”, They asked to download the song from the various download portals and thus increase the chance of a single chart placement. In the following week the song finally reached number 48 in the German charts.
Since about 2011 the group has been able to live on the income from YouTube.
2012: The Ponk Network and two other singles
On February 7, 2012, the comedy trio was a guest on the Harald Schmidt Show , in which it was announced that they had booked around 10,000,000 video clicks in the previous month alone.
Y-Titty founded the Ponk network in late summer 2012 . In addition to Y-Titty itself, many other comedy channels such as " ApeCrime ", "FuNPeXeL" or " BullshitTV " are active. Comedy videos were posted on the channel five times a week. In addition, the Ponk-WG was founded, but Phil, TC and OG did not move into it.
On August 3, 2012, Y-Titty released his second single The Last Summer . Could the chart success of Stand Time beat and entered the German charts at 15th. In Austria it was ranked 19th and in Switzerland 34th. On September 5, 2012, the trio received a one-off broadcast on RTL II .
On September 25, 2012, Y-Titty published the NOT book , for which it had previously advertised and put a video on the genesis online on DieJungs . In the book, Y-Titty makes fun of "Hater" and tells the story of the fourth Y-Titty.
On November 30, 2012, the third single Fest der Liebe was released, which entered the German charts up to number 27. On December 31, 2012, Y-Titty became the first German-speaking channel with its own content to reach one million subscribers. They reached 1.5 million subscribers on March 29, 2013.
2013: Debut album and Y-Play
In spring 2013, Y-Titty was nominated for the Echo in the category "National Best Music Video" for The Last Summer , which they did not win. On December 30, 2012, Y-Titty overtook the then most subscribed YouTube channel “ DieAussenseiter ”, and one day later they surpassed the 1 million subscriber mark. On July 15, 2013, Y-Titty surpassed the two million subscriber mark on YouTube.
On July 3, 2013 the channel Y-Play was created. It was not considered to be Y-Titty's own account, but was used by various comedy groups, such as ApeCrime, the Ponk members or Y-Titty itself. This was a channel on which they uploaded Let's Play videos. A new video appeared every day with a specific motto such as “Versus Play”, “Retro Play” or “Community Play”.
On May 12, 2013, the trio announced the planning of an album . The songs and the album were produced by the German producer TheEmu. On July 26, 2013, the release of a new single was announced on Facebook . This is called Shut your Maul and was released on August 9, 2013. Y-Titty set itself the goal of making it into the top 10 of the German single charts with this song . This was achieved, the song even rose to number 5 in the singles charts. They also reached the top 10 in Austria and Switzerland. The album Stricksocken Swagger was released on August 23, 2013 and is the group's first number one hit.
On October 12, 2013, OG and TC took part in Stefan Raab's Stock Car Crash Challenge . Y-Titty were already guests on TV on March 13, 2013 .
2014: Takeover Battle, Stricksockenswagger Tour and Echo 2014
In January 2014, as part of the so-called Y-Titty Takeover Battle (YTB), Y-Titty made its three channels Y-Titty , diejungs and Y-Play available to unknown YouTubers for a week each. Were selected BullshitTV , Digges Ding , Cinemates and SpaceBoyz . The first three channels were set by the trio, SpaceBoyz won a preliminary decision in which all viewers were allowed to send in a video. BullshitTV won the audience award, while the jury selected Digges Ding as the best channel.
On January 31, 2014, the song #Hashtag was released with rapper MC Fitti . In the German charts, #Hashtag was only able to present itself at number 50.
From mid-February to mid-March 2014, the comedy trio organized its first major tour with the debut album Stricksocken Swagger through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Y-Titty performed in Cologne , Frankfurt , Hanover , Dresden , Berlin , Hamburg (1st round), Vienna , Graz , Zurich , Stuttgart , Munich and Nuremberg (2nd round). They even said they wanted to do another tour.
On March 27th, the three comedians won the Echo 2014 in the category Best Video National for the song Shut your Mouth . The award was received by Phil, OG and the music producer TheEmu. TC was in Miami at the time.
On June 5, 2014, lets player Gronkh overtook Y-Titty in terms of subscriber numbers. For the first time since the end of 2012, they were no longer the most-subscribed YouTube channel in Germany.
On June 20, 2014, Y-Titty announced in a video that they would first take a break during which they would not upload any videos on their main channel. They also stated that they will only post videos when they feel like it. They also wanted to tackle a movie.
On August 8, 2014, the trio's sixth single was released, entitled Damn Normal .
On August 25, 2014 TC started his own channel on which he publishes videos from his private life.
On September 11, 2014, Oğuz announced that there would be no more new videos on Y-Play, but that the channel would still be available.
On September 22, 2014, the channel reached the three million subscriber mark.
On October 9, 2014, Oğuz put the first video online on his own channel. He's been running another channel with his fiancée since January 2014. The videos of both channels are set to private today.
2015: dissolution
On December 11th, 2015, the trio put a music video with the title "# Endless" on the main channel, in which they humourously sang about the end. On the second channel diejungs there is the serious counterpart, in which Y-Titty explains the resolution and gives a glimpse of the future. Laude would like to devote himself more to his acting career, Roll would like to continue with YouTube and Yılmaz would like to focus more on activities behind the camera. Roll would like to build a completely new, independent channel for this.
criticism
On March 25, 2014, the trio was accused by the ARD series Report Mainz of product placement and editorially integrated advertising for brands such as Samsung , Coca-Cola and McDonald’s without adequate labeling. The competent district government of Middle Franconia then checked whether it would be responsible for examining the allegations, but has not initiated any formal investigation into surreptitious advertising. Mediakraft, the channel's marketer at the time, rejected the allegations of surreptitious advertising. Afterwards, all videos with advertising content from Y-Titty were provided with a message “Supported by product placement”.
