Miss Czechoslovakia
Miss Czechoslovakia was a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Czechoslovakia , which was called Miss Československo domestically . Its origins go back to before the Second World War . Even then, the winners took part in the Miss Europe and Miss Universe elections. Only a few names have survived from this period: Milada Dostolová in 1930 and Trude Böhm in 1935.
The Second World War and the subsequent rule of communism caused a long break in the competition . Only around the time of the Prague Spring were there again, from 1966 to 1970, a temporary contest, the winners of which even ran for international candidates. Annual competitions have only been held again since 1989.
After the country was divided into a Czech and a Slovak Republic with effect from January 1, 1993, the title Miss Czechoslovakia was no longer awarded, even if a joint contest took place in the first year.
From 1989 onwards, the Art Production K./2 agency carried out the elections, but since 1994 only in the Czech Republic under the title Miss Czech Republic (in Germany: Miss České Republiky ).
