Montvoie ( German Vogtsberg ), first mentioned in 1284 as Montvouel , is the name of a hamlet and a ruined castle in the Pruntrut district of the Swiss canton of Jura on the border with French Montancy . The municipality, which was independent until it was united with Ocourt in 1882, also included the settlements of Valbert and La Combe , and since 2009 the whole area has belonged to the new municipality of Clos du Doubs .
The Lomont- Mont Terri chain or Lomont chain (up to 940 m above sea level) forms the northern boundary of the Clos du Doubs region and, at 100 kilometers, the longest Jura chain , which extends from Besançon to Reigoldswil . The Col de Montvoie lies at 858 m at the west foot of the hill «Les Chainions» ( 909 m ) and cuts through the Lomont chain.
The castle on the Lomont hill range was rebuilt in the late Middle Ages . In 1284 the Counts of Neuchâtel in Burgundy lent the permanent home to the knight Richard von Vendlincourt . In the middle of the 14th century the castle passed to the knight Simon von Saint-Aubin and in the 16th century it was expanded with masonry and artillery towers. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was badly damaged and not rebuilt. The remains of a round tower and a curtain wall bordered by a farm are still visible.
