Settlement on the upper edge of the Areuse alluvial plain between Colombier and Boudry. First mentioned in 1178 under Oruse, 1289 under Crousa. Areuse shared from 1284 on the forest and pasture use as well as some village tasks with Bôle and Colombier. Until 1832 Areuse belonged to the parish as well as the land and judicial rule of Colombier, then to Boudry. The village was on the border of two dominions with barely unraveling legal claims, owned only a tiny area and lost its comrades at the beginning of the 19th century. Therefore Areuse never achieved the status of a community of residents . In addition, the poor administration resulted in major financial problems.
