history

Cornaux ( Curnaul , Curnal , Culnau ) was first mentioned in writing in 1212 - then as Curnaul . The document from the Abbey of Saint-Jean concerned border disputes between the "Corbanetchs" (residents of Cornaux) and the neighboring community. The Saint-Pierre church was built in 1340.

Many of the houses in the village center date from the 16th century and are evidence of the busy and quiet life of their residents. The authorities (Counts von Fenis, von Freiburg, von Hochberg, then the Comtes d'Orléans, Prince Berthier, the King of Prussia ...) regarded these as loyal and problem-free citizens whose main problems were their agriculture and taxes the authorities turned. There is no known dramatic or decisive event.
