Fregiécourt ( French [ fʀəʒjekuʀ / fʀeʒikuʀ / fʀəʒikuʀ ], in the native dialect [ frəʤieko / frəʤiːəˈkɔ / fərʤiːəˈkɔ ]; German Friedlinsdorf ) is a village and a former political municipality in the Porrentruy district of the canton of Jura in Switzerland .

Fregiécourt lies at 526  m above sea level. M. , nine kilometers east of the district capital Porrentruy (air line). The former street line village extends on both sides of the Fregiécourt brook in the Baroche in the eastern Ajoie (German Elsgau ) at the northern foot of the Chain Jura .

The area of ​​the 3.5 km² former municipal area includes the La Pran plain south of the Allaine and extends in the south to the wooded Chaumont , which is 753  m above sea level. M. forms the highest point of the municipality. This belongs to the Lomont Jura range . In the east the area extends to the height of Le Chênois ( 585  m above sea level ). The municipality is drained by the Ruisseau de Fregiécourt to the Allaine. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was in settlements, 38% in forest and woodland, 56% in agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

Some individual farms belong to Fregiécourt. The neighboring communities of Fregiécourt were Cornol , Miécourt , Charmoille , Pleujouse and Asuel .

With 147 inhabitants (at the end of 2007) Fregiécourt is one of the small communities in the canton of Jura. 86.5% of the residents are French-speaking and 13.5% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Fregiécourt was 350 in 1850 and 240 in 1900. Thereafter, a further 50% decrease to 121 inhabitants was recorded by 1990. Since then, only minor fluctuations have been recorded.

Fregiécourt is still predominantly agricultural , fruit growing , especially cherry trees , is of particular importance . Outside of agriculture there are only a few jobs in the village. Many workers are therefore commuters and work in the Porrentruy region .

traffic

Fregiécourt is on the cantonal road from Cornol to Charmoille or Asuel. Fregiécourt is connected to public transport by two postbus courses. One runs from Porrentruy to Asuel, the other from Porrentruy to Lucelle , making a detour to Fregiécourt.

history

At Fregiécourt, the remains of a dolmen from the Neolithic period and a burial site, presumably built during the Merovingian era , were found. The place is first mentioned in 1136 as Frigiscurth ; the German forms Fridestorf and Friederichesdorf appear in the 13./14. Century. The place name is probably composed of the short form of a two- Germanic personal name with the forelimb Frija 'free' and rom. Corte , yard, estate, property ', which as a basic word, probably under the Germanic influence, contrary to Roman composites occurs typical word order to the end .

Fregiécourt shared the checkered history of the Ajoie, which first came to the Duchy of Basel in 1271 . When the von Hasenburg family died out at the end of the 15th century, there were inheritance disputes between the Lützel monastery and the prince-bishop. The village was under the Meieramt Alle from the 16th to the 18th century . From 1793 to 1815 Fregiécourt belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont-Terrible , from 1800 connected to the Département Haut-Rhin . By decision of the Congress of Vienna , the place came to the canton of Bern in 1815 and on January 1, 1979 to the newly founded canton of Jura. On January 1, 2009 , the municipality was united with Asuel , Charmoille , Miécourt and Pleujouse to form the new municipality of La Baroche .

Attractions

The Saint-Imier-et-Hubert chapel, first mentioned in 1379, was rebuilt in 1612. It has valuable furnishings from the 16th and 18th centuries. Fregiécourt is part of the parish of Charmoille. In the center there are still some typical old farmhouses from the 17th century.
